Naples, 25 September 2017 – Food and innovation, technology and service: a winning combination in a globalised world of flavours and ingredients, where eating well – according to the 2017 Coop report – has become an identity value, a new luxury and experience. And the out-of-home sector is the star of this new approach, gaining shares of the volume of domestic consumption (+1.1% in 2016).

There is a trade fair in Milan that takes place every two years, which puts the latest technological innovation in this world – from catering to coffee, from ice cream to pastries, from cups to furnishings – under the spotlight. This trade fair is HostMilano, which will kick off its 40th edition from Friday 20 to Tuesday 24 October. Over the years, this event has become a benchmark for the Ho.Re.Ca., foodservice, retail, large-scale distribution and hotellerie industries.

The latest innovation regarding machinery, raw materials, semi-finished products, and services will be showcased at Fiera Milano, not to mention the indications about the future of the hospitality sector, the beating heart of Italian economy. Machines have become essential for pastry and pizza chefs, ice cream makers, chefs, and baristas, and they will be used in hundreds of cooking shows, demonstrations, challenges, and championships. A colourful experience, where the fragrance of bread and pizza fresh out of the oven or the aroma of the finest coffee will take visitors to Wonderland. A striking and educational event, where you can learn more about these products,discover new trends, and obtain useful information to upgrade your business and make it more profitable.

An international trade fair with 51 countries represented

With just one month to go to, HostMilano - International Hospitality Exhibition is already promising to further build on the success of the previous edition. As of today, 2,081 companies have already confirmed their attendance, including 1,255 Italian (60.3%) and 826 international firms (39.7%, +11% compared to the previous edition), representing 51 countries. These figures show a general growth of the event compared to 2015, which counted 2,010 companies.

“With a 3.5% increase compared to the same date in 2015, figures confirm Host’s leading position among international trade fairs and are very promising for this 40th edition,” said Simona Greco, Fiera Milano’s Art, Fashion, Hospitality & Travel Exhibitions Director. “Host is the perfect marketplace where Italian and international manufacturers can present their technological innovations and trends in the hospitality industry, also thanks to the Fiera Milano’s continuous scouting to select high-profile buyers. And this year, there will be over 1,500 of them from all five continents.”

The progressively international nature of HostMilano is demonstrated by new entries i.e., Egypt, New Zealand, South Africa, Ukraine, and Uganda, which will be taking to the stage for the first time, while Canada will be back after several years. Europe will be boasting the largest number of companies (71.4%), with Germany, Spain and France topping the list, followed closely by the USA, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Portugal, Greece, the Netherlands, and Austria. As for the product categories represented by the companies, the Foodservice Equipment and Bread Pizza Pastawill be the most represented macro-sector equating to 43.7%. Coffee, Tea, Bars, Coffee and Vending Machines will be represented by 37.5% of companies, and Furniture and Tableware, by 18.8%.

As part of a strategy that has been extensively promoted the world over to reach a wider audience, the event taking place next October has also been devised to focus on this edition’s target areas - the USA, Canada and the Middle East - for which various activities have been organised to attract visitors also through agreements with respected North American and European associations.

1,500 buyers from all over the world will be there

Hosted buyers from all over have been selected thanks to the growing investment in profiling and the close collaboration with the ITA - Italian Trade Agency. Over 1,500 buyers from Europe (10%), the Mediterranean (6%), the Middle East (15%), North America (23%), Central and South America (8%), Russia (18%), South Africa (1%), Asia and Oceania (19%).

All food and hospitality sectors in one trade fair

The five-day event is organised in the following three macro-areas: Professional Catering, with bread, pizza, and pasta; Coffee-Tea, with bars, coffee and vending machines, ice-creams and pastries; Furnishings and Tableware. For the first time this year, visitors can enjoy a hands-on experience with the thousands of nuances of the word hybridisation. For this reason, ice cream, pastries, and coffee – halls 10 and 14 – will be ideally and physically joined through the Experience Gallery. A bridge between the worlds of Ice Cream & Pastries and Coffee but also a path that will stimulate all five senses.

Over 500 events between championships, meetings, and more

The 40th edition of HostMilano - International Hospitality Exhibition will have over 500 events, including workshops, training opportunities, round tables, and cooking shows. An opportunity not to be missed as professional visitors can attend all event supervised by HostMilano, regardless of the sector they belong to. These events will focus on the hottest topics.

EXIHS, for example, is an art installation by Davide Rampello and Dante O. Benini, which will put the Italy’s long-standing hospitality tradition under the spotlight. There will also be a space dedicated to the Cake Designers World Championship and the World Trophy of Pastry, Ice Cream and Chocolate in collaboration with FIPGC (International Federation Pastry Ice Cream Chocolate). As for catering, the APCI (Association of Italian Professional Chefs), through the ObiettivoApprendistato (Apprenticeship Objective) training project, will see the most talented newly-qualified young chefs attend the fair after having been selected following a lengthy process. The Identità Future space, organised in collaboration with IdentitàGolose, will see chefs take part in compelling cooking shows that will highlight the role played by technology at the service of haute cuisine. Once again, HostMilano will host the European Pizza Championships, organised by Pizza e Pasta Italiana magazine. With regards to training, Fcsi, Foodservice Consultants Society International will ensure “a glance into the catering industry’s future.”

Aesthetics is increasingly important in confectionery and will be showcased in the Dolcinarte space curated by ChiriottiEditori and Cookery Lab, and Art Gallery space.

Sic, International Coffee Exhibition is the area dedicated to coffee. “Fantasie al caffè” is the competition organised by FIPE - the Italian Federation of Public Concerns, which aims at highlighting new ideas revolving around coffee. Cafe Chronology, produced by World Coffee Events, will take visitors on a journey through the culture of coffee from the early twentieth century to today. In “Magic of Mixology”, curated by Mixer Educational, mixology and cooking masters will give industry professionals the chance to return to tradition and learn about the properties and benefits of natural herbs. Hub Coffee Science is a workshop to learn about the scientific principles at the base of a good cup of coffee.

Plenty of competitions not to be missed: on 21 and 22 ottobre, the 5th Gran PremiodellaCaffetteria Italiana (Italian Coffeehouse Grand Prix), organised by Aicaf (Italian Academy of Coffee Masters). The final is organised in partnership with Altoga, the Lombard Association of Coffee Roasters and Importers and of Food Wholesalers. Espresso Italiano Champion 2017,organised by INEI, the National Institute of Italian Espresso. There will also be room for a new format with the 2017Milano Latte Art Challenge, a competition developed by the Trismoka team that will see 12 baristas battling for victory.
