Planning Backward to Achieve the Goal
Have participants work in pairs.
Have them choose a level and a unit they would like to plan.
Model by using Grade 6, la télé
Have them use the following process:
1. on the outline, fill in the information they have: field of study, particular subject, project to be done, any resources they have already.
2. Have them determine how many class periods are available for teaching this unit, allowing for the class presentations, preparation of the final project, and preparation of the skills.
3. Look through the unit, check out the steps and the annexes, and see how they lead to the final project.
4. Imagine how the final project will look. Imagine the structures the students will need to complete the project. Imagine what they would say, based on the annexes and activities you looked at.
Decide what the criteria for this project might be. (see guide p. 241 for an example) and sample p. 159 for linguistic content chart.
5. Now, select those structures which the students can reasonably assimilate in the time you have to teach them.
6. Associate those with the suggested steps indicated in the curriculum guide. In other words, pick the annexes and lessons you will do. List these in the Learning Experiences Planned Section.
7. Now, write down the subject and step in each individual mini-lesson section.
8. Fill in how those lessons might look, as many as you can do in the time allotted. The actualization workshops in the new year will help you fine tune this process. We will fill in the assessment portion later.
9. Add in any activities you want to use from Drozda or from other resources you may have. (DO A DROZDA BATTLESHIP ACTIVITY TO ILLUSTRATE. ) We will look at resources this afternoon..
We will add the assessment component this afternoon.
