STUDENT VOLUNTEER SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

This Scholarship Opportunity is being offered to a student volunteer who serves the Westlake Village Library. It is made available through a generous donation of the Friends of the Westlake Village Library and endowments by it former members.

This opportunity offers a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from one of the following public schools: Agoura High School, Oak Park High School and Westlake High School. Applicants must possess a 3.0 grade point average, show participation in school and/or community activities, and complete the essay described below. The committees of The Friends of The Westlake Village Library will review the applications.

TO BE CONSIDERED FOR AN AWARD, THIS APPLICATION MUST BE POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, APRIL 10, 2017

Please complete the following and attach to this Application:

1.Copy of official transcript of grades from all high schools attended

2.One Letter of Recommendation specifically addressed to The Friends of the Westlake Village Library from a high school teacher or your counselor.

3.A Brief Essay of no more than 500 words discussing the following:

a.Why did you choose to volunteer at the Westlake Village Library.

b.How can libraries improve or be more involved in their communities?

c.Do you think libraries are still relevant in this age of social media?

d.Discuss your personal, education and career goals. Will a library help you with these?

e.Discuss your reason for applying and include financial need, if any.

4.List on the application form extra-curricular activities, community involvement and employment history, if any.
