I. College Algebra
a. College Algebra is definitely not a beginning algebra course.
b. Algebra background is required.
II. Text
a. Algebra for College Students, 6th edition, Lial, Hornsby, & McGinnis
Addison Wesley Publishing Co.
- It may be helpful to look in the front of your text at the student resources section. Resources are available there online. Student’s Solution Manual may be obtained through the Student Store. (Not required, but may be helpful.)
III. Attendance
a. Attendance will be taken to fulfill the administrative duties of the instructor.
b. Grade will not be lowered for lack of attendance.
- Attendance does affect the student status with respect to financial aid.
- Student should be aware that success in this course normally varies directly with
attendance and effort applied.
IV. Homework
a. Homework is assigned to give the student an idea of the concepts the instructor feels are important.
b. Homework is for the student’s benefit and will not be taken up or graded. (The more outside work done the better.)
V. Tests & Grades
a. Tests will be given normally at the end of each chapter covered.
b. Comprehensive Final is required and may be counted as two test scores if the Comp.
Final Test score is higher than the lowest test or missed test score. Otherwise it will
be counted once.
c. Grades will be given based on the average of your test scores and the ten point scale.
Crosnoe function is in play. (Any decimal in calculation of average will be rounded up.)
90-100 A
80-89 B
70-79 C
60-69 D
0-59 F
VI.Tutoring
a. Tutoring is available through the Winds Program.
VII. Withdrawals
a. Unless for disciplinary reasons, students are responsible for withdrawing themselves from the class. Students must be withdrawnbefore taking the final. All
withdrawals will be a “W” unless mandated by administration.
VIII.Cell Phones and Pagers
a. Please show courtesy to the class by making sure all cell phones and pagers are turned off prior to the start of class. The WesternOklahomaState College Student Services
will be happy to get any emergency messages or phone calls to you promptly.
IX. Americans with Disabilities
- Those students who require and request special consideration for classes should first contact the counseling office. The student needs to complete an accommodation form, which will be reviewed for appropriate action.
