Walthambury Farm
ESSEX
We are a 500 hectare arable farm in Essex.
We are looking for 2 harvest students to help us this summer. We are a small team comprising of 1 full time man, Steve, along with my dad and myself. The current crops we grow are winter wheat, oilseed rape, winter beans, spring barley and spring peas.
The arable work the 2 students will be sharing is:
Corn Cart
Primary Cultivations
Hedge cutting
Discing
Power Harrowing
Loading grain lorries
Rolling
Irrigation (if required)
General farm work
We do not have a specific mechanic so with training you will be responsible for the day to day maintenance of your tractor and implement.
Along with our arable we have a large citrus fruit diversification enterprise,we are a storage depot for a citrus fruit importer, so there is no fruit picking to be done, all the fruit arrives to us already in cardboard bins, we are responsible for unloading, cold storing and re-loading the fruit on to lorries, all the work is done with industrial fork trucks or hand powered pallet trucks.
We require 1 student to start with us between the middle and end of June and the second to start in early to mid July, one job will finish in mid September whereas we require 1 student to stay with us until the end of October.
We require the following qualifications:
Tractor driving licence
Rough terrain licence
Industrial Counterbalance Lift Truck (below 5 tonnes) would be a advantageous
We provide a 3 bedroom furnished house on the farm as part of your employment, we are happy for you to bring a car if you would like.
They will be plenty of overtime available, but this does not start until we start combining in mid July, and will run through to your finish date, but obviously the weather can play a major part.
The rate of pay is:
First 39 hours of each week - £6.90
After 39 hours – £ 10.50
