My name is Vickkie Zietlow and I am the Associate Dean of EMS Education for Mid-State Technical College (MSTC).

MSTC is located in central Wisconsin and serves a population of 168,000. The college district encompasses 1, 750 square miles with campuses in Marshfield, Stevens Point, and Wisconsin Rapids and a learning site in Adams-Friendship.

The average age of the MSTC student is 28. The annual enrollment is approximately 12,000. The college graduates over 1,000 students each year with 94% of these graduates finding employment within six months, and 78% finding employment within their chosen field.

I began my career as an EMT for a fire based First Responder Unit in 1981. In 1987 I completed my associate degree in nursing from Gadsden State Community College, Gadsden, Alabama. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 2000 and my Master of Science of Nursing from the University of Phoenix in 2002.

I assumed the role of Associate Dean of EMS Education for Mid-State Technical College in August, 2000. The EMS department offers all levels of EMS education including a Paramedic Associate Degree.

The reason I am attending the conference is MSTC is in the development phase of an Emergency Management Specialist associate degree program. This conference was recommended to me by Jerry Haberl, Wisconsin Emergency Management Training and Exercise Director and Denny Thomas, Risk Manager, Ministry Health Care.

It is important to me to gather as much information about:

Ø curriculum development

Ø grant funding

Ø enrollment/retention

Ø student employment

It is also important for me to establish a network of professional contacts.
