Officers Reports

Chairman (Charlie Orton):

The Chairman congratulated our League Champions, University of London, on their exceptional season.

The improved support from the English Volleyball Association was noted as a part in the large changes happening to Volleyball, promising an exciting future. He ended with a challenge to the members of the Association to get involved in the future of Volleyball in London.

Treasurer (Andy Kwiatkowski):

The highlights from the accounts (see appendix *** PLEASE ADD ***) show a surplus of income over expenditure for the period of £2,200. However there are several expenses not yet paid and income not yet received which, if taken into account as estimated, would result in a deficit over the period of £1,600 on a turnover of just under £12,000. Our cash position, after taking into account the forecast deficit and the club deposits, is a little over £11,000.

Coaches (Stuart Fullerton):

The main purpose of this activity is to help clubs run coaching courses up to EVA level 2. London has only 1 staff tutor coach, other regions have more. Also London has a lower ratio of coaches to clubs. However there is a demand from clubs for coaches.

Referees (Charlie Orton):

The referee appointment system has been working well. One referee course (9 women and 6 men) was run during the year. The meeting was very appreciative of Charlie’s efforts to manage the appointment system.

Junior Development (Jim Howell):

Much of this activity involves training youngsters during the year with an objective of competing in the EVA’s Inter-Regional Tournament. Jim prepared 3 teams (U16 and U14 girls, and U17 boys) with John Lowney and Jack Molynuex adding a further team (U15 boys). There are several other initiatives running in West London.

Events:

The main event this year was the London Challenge that involved elite men’s and women’s teams competing in a ‘round robin’ league to gain a place in a ‘finals day’ at Crystal Palace. At Crystal Palace the elite teams concluded their competition and alongside them were teams from companies having their own competition and a social volleyball event. The whole exercise was well received.

Area Cup: (Vincent McBean):

London’s entry to the Area Cup won the event. Vincent recommended we volunteer to host this event in future so it provides more opportunities for Londoners to gain organizing experience leading up to the Olympics in 2012.
