Dear, Date 7/20/09
Did you know there are over 98,000 people in the United States currently waiting for a life-saving organ transplant? In fact, 18 people die every day because not enough organs are available for transplant. In addition, hundreds of thousands of people could benefit from the gift of tissue and eye donations.
Organ transplantation is an emotional and physical strain. Imagine the stress of not knowing if you will receive an organ before your own fails. Involving support groups and increasing the awareness of these support groups allows individuals that have been a part of the donation process to discuss all aspects related to donation and transplantation. Increasing awareness can promote donation and increase the length and quality of life for individuals suffering life limiting organ failure.
Vernon Memorial Healthcare (VMH) Transplant Support Walk will help to raise money for our Transplant Support Group. The Transplant Support Group works to increase awareness regarding organ donation and transplantation, help people get to appointments and provide other needed services. The funds would be distributed locally in Vernon, Monroe, La CrosseJuneau counties and surrounding areas to individuals who need a transplant but cannot afford the associated costs. The funds will also assist families who are having financial difficulties due to a transplant We are proud to say that our Transplant Support Group is one of the best in the state.
