R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, The Sealy High School Tigers have attained the pinnacle of success in their quest for excellence, completing the 1994 season with a perfect record of 16 wins and no defeats and claiming the 1994 University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 3A football championship; and

WHEREAS, After battling their way through the regular season and four playoff contests, the Tigers took the field in the state semifinal matchup against Port Isabel High School and, although trailing early, came from behind to overwhelm their opponent 34‑13, giving head coach T. J. Mills his 100th career victory; and

WHEREAS, Sealy met Atlanta High School at Houston's fabled Astrodome with the 3A title at stake and demonstrated the character and tenacity that were the team's hallmarks throughout the season, putting on a textbook display of gridiron excellence en route to a 36‑15 win to claim the coveted football crown; and

WHEREAS, Tiger running back Fred Smith, named Texas High School Class 3A Player of the Year by the HSE television network and Dave Campbell's Football Magazine, lived up to his well‑deserved accolades by rushing for a Texas high school championship game record 313 yards, eclipsing the mark set by legendary running back and former Sealy star Eric Dickerson; and

WHEREAS, The season's outstanding accomplishments were the result of total team effort from members Jeff Gaston, Anthony Davila, Michael McDonald, Paul Martinez, Taurus Downey, Brad Boehm, Mario Tarver, Brad Burttschell, Allen Kalkomey, Jarrod Novicke, Stephen Kaye, Jaron Dabney, Wayne Hester, Lamont Bonner, Chris Tate, John Sodolak, Steven Newsome, Fred Smith, Gary Hill, Forrest Wagner, Keaton Cloud, Chase Schavrda, Ken Harris, Stephen Stuessel, Ruperto Sauceda, Nathan Pless, Sammy Miller, James Sims, Jake Dowell, Ryan Ekarius, Richard Williams, Eric Zapalac, Nick Callihan, Tommy Zapalac, Mike Kovar, James Ritter, Chris Noble, Eliseo Molina, John Buchala, Bill Krampitz, Ernesto Lopez, Ryan Eckelberg, Jimmie Schroeder, Heath Novosad, Gilbert Bassett, Dante Curry, Chris Lincecum, Jeremy Crowder, Marty Bradshaw, Konrad Novicke, and Shane Stroud; and

WHEREAS, Outstanding leadership and guidance were supplied by head coach T. J. Mills, whose unwavering belief in his players' abilities helped them to realize their championship dream; and

WHEREAS, This exceptional group of young men, along with their coaches and staff, have been a tremendous source of pride to the students and faculty at Sealy High School and their many supporters in the community, and their exceptional achievements have rightfully earned them special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 74th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Sealy High School Tigers and their coaching staff on their undefeated season and 1994 UIL Class 3A football championship; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared for the members of the team and coaching staff and that a copy be prepared for prominent display at Sealy High School as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
