From the Principal Pen – 01- 20 -2017

Parents,

Thank you for taking time to remain up to date with our school news.

Make up days – missed snow days have been scheduled for January 24th and February 17th. This is a change from the CMS calendar, however allows us a break in mid-February as CMS has reserved February 20th as a teacher workday. We hope for good weather the rest of the winter!

Other Dates to Remember – February 20 – no school, March 1 – early release day, March 31 – no school, April 7 – 14 – Spring Break, Easter Sunday – April 16, Monday April 17 – students return to school, April 26 – early release day, May 25 - possible for EOGs to begin.

Coffee with Ann Clark – We are very excited to host a Coffee and Conversation with CMS Superintendent Ann Clark. All staff, parents and community members are invited to share this time with Ms. Clark, discussing topics of interest related to CMS and public education. Mark your calendars – Tuesday, January 31, 4:30 – 6:00 pm.

2017-18 Student Enrollment – Student enrollment for the 2017-18 School Year has begun with Phase I Lottery deadline coming up on January 24th for student options.

MAP and Reading 3D – Assessments for all students in MAP (Measurement of Academic Progress) will take begin Thursday, January 18th. Also, all K-3 students are being assessed in Reading 3D. These are both required of CMS and/or the state of NC. We look forward to our results to demonstrate how much our students are growing in literacy and math so far this school year.

Davidson families are invited to attend. The Davidson Turning Tigers will perform between the boys and girls games (6:00 pm). Bailey MS PTSA will provide school tours during the games and the school store will also be open.

JM Alexander MS & 5th graders – JM Alexander Middle School is offering information about their program with Phase I & II of the 2017-18 Lottery Process coming up in the next weeks. Please note the attachment for more information. ALSO – There will be a parent meeting on Monday, February 6th at 5:00 in our music room to hear more about JM Alexander Middle School and their programs. This meeting is for all 4th and 5th grade parents.

Special Events – Girl’s Night Out, Friday January 27th, DES Gym – Boy’s Night Out, Friday February 3rd, Davidson College.

Ronald McDonald House - Bailey Middle School is partnering with the Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte in the Million Tab Challenge. Bailey is collecting tabs from canned drinks with a goal of collecting 25 pounds. Davidson Elementary is supporting one of our former students, Sydney Shryock, in this challenge. Any student may bring in tabs to his/her teacher, the teacher will place in a collection box which will be checked monthly until the end of the school year. This is an easy way to show our support for our Bailey Middle School.

Have a great weekend everyone. See you on Monday morning.

Respectfully,

Mr. Dana R. Jarrett, Principal
