2.
/ Workshop:No Voice Unheard No right ignored
Sue Tomlin, Joint Commissioning Unit introduced a new paper from the department of health.
Sue showed everyone a video of a service user explaining what the paper is about.
The government is looking at how to make sure something like Winterbourne View does not happen again and wants to know how they can make people’s rights stronger and how they can make people more involved in the care they received.
Sue told the board that in Barnet there are still people living away but we are looking at how people can be sorted to move back.
All the members then broke into a workshop with the 3 themes:
1. My right to be independent, part of a community and living at a home I have chosen
2. My right to be listened to, to challenge decisions and to advocacy
3. My right to a personal budget and for the NHS and the Council to work together
Facilitators helped the group discuss what was important to them so that a response could be generated on behalf of the Learning Disabilities Partnership Board.
See Appendix 1 for details
BUSINESS MEETING
2.
/ Homecare Support and Enablement
Allison Thomas, Project manager introduced what homecare is, and that the council are looking at how we can make homecare better in the future.
Alison told everyone that they can get involved in a group and tell her what the issues are and help the council find ways to make things better.
- Members of the board highlighted that:
- Homecare needs to be focussed
- Homecare professionals need to be aware of specific needs people with learning disabilities may have
- There needs to be more time for people with Learning Disabilities to learn to do new things.
If anyone would like to be part of the group contact Allison and she would be happy to speak to you
