TITLE:Advanced Practice Provider (APP)Team Lead: Nurse Midwife, Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant

DEPARTMENT AND COST CENTER:Community Women’s Services Cost Center 624510

ROLE OVERVIEW:Responsible for providing leadership and direction, to APPs as well as providing orientation, mentoring, education and training. Responsible for education on appropriate documentation and provide a standardization of quality patient care delivered by APPs.Be the APP representative for Women’s Services by participating on Women’s Services committees.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:Three (3) to five (5) years experience as anAPP required. Lead or supervisory experience preferred.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:Graduation from anAPP Training Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education programs (CAAHEP) or accredited Nurse Practitioner or Nurse Midwife Program.

REQUIRE LICENSE:APP: Nurse Midwife, Physician’s Assistant or Nurse Practitioner license.

PREREQUISITE SKILLS:

  • Knowledge is mandatory of: anatomy; physiology; emergency medical treatment; surgical techniques; sterilization and aseptic techniques; medical ethics; administration of drugs; operation of therapeutic and diagnostic equipment; medical terminology; and specialized medical treatments and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The following functions describe the essential duties of this role. Individuals in this role may not perform all of these duties, or may perform additional, related duties not listed here.

  1. Provides direct patient care as a representative of the physician treating the patient in a style and manner developed and directed by the supervising physician and consistent with authorized practice as defined by state law.
  2. Reviews with the supervising physician all delegated patient services on a regular basis, as well as mutually agreed guidelines for practice.
  3. May round with physicians from time to time in the hospital
  4. Ensures all APPsprovide adequate and consistent quality care.
  5. Participates in interviewing prospective employees for APP roles.
  6. May assist site manager on appropriateness of CME requests.
  7. Hold regular staff meetings and follow-up on all issues and questions.
  8. Serves as a consultantand provideinput into annual written performance appraisal in a timely, professional and objective manner under the direction of the Women’s Services Medical Director and Women’s Services Director.
  9. Assists with communication and documentation of any employee behavioral or corrective action neededin collaboration with the managing physician and operations manager.
  10. Collaborates with health care team and serves as a liaison/representativeto APPs issues.
  11. Mentors APPs towards self-directed learning and participates in continuing education to meet own professional development.
  12. Ensures that the assigned services meet/exceed the expected quality outcomes, revenue/new business growth targets along with meeting human, financial and material resource utilization goals and targets.
  13. Maintains responsibility for personnel development and competencies necessary to improve organizational performance for assigned areas.
  14. Conducts routine chart audits for quality of care as assigned by section
  15. Reviews patient quality of care concerns
  16. Responsible for the development of an orientation for all new APP.
  17. Has a thorough understanding of all levels of APPs scope of practice.
  18. Assesses and supports the implementation of standardization of APPs service, documentation, etc.
  19. Is a member of the: Outcomes and Performances committee, participates on the Women’sCabinet and participates on the APP Section Committee.
