From Weak to Weak

Psalms 41:1-13

INTRODUCTION

Have you ever heard someone say, “I just live week to week”? In our text, we are hearing from one who is suffering with a chronic illness and the interpretation of the sickness leads this person to the realization that we all live “weak to weak”!

I.  Weak in Body

a.  The first three verses may have been the priest praying for the writer of this Psalm.

b.  To realize our fragile physical condition is an important first step to realizing our overall condition.

II.  Weak in Mind

a.  The utterance of empty words in verse 6 reminds us that our thinking can lead us to wrong places.

b.  To give our minds over to Christ is a daily challenge.

III.  Weak in Spirit

a.  Realize the sin that is in every life. (v. 4)

b.  Allow God to raise us up rather than try to raise ourselves. (v.10)

CONCLUSION

Today, if we recognize that we live in our weakness and pray to God to deliver us from our weakness, then we too can claim the gracious and delivering blessings from God.

Scripture for next week’s message about sharing the truth when it is difficult: II Samuel 12:1-13; Matthew 5:33-37; Ephesians 4:17-32; Psalms 52:1-9; Zechariah 8:14-17
