Mission Statement of MissionUSA

Our mission is to glorify God and advance His Kingdom by engaging the members and other resources of Second Presbyterian Church, directly and through partnerships with others, in effective and sustainable ministries that proclaim the Gospel, extend mercy, and promote justice primarily in our in our city.

Funding Priorities

In considering applicants for funding we will place high value on ministries which have:

-effective, proven leadership and meaningful oversight by an independent board or other group;

-an evangelistic emphasis in outreach efforts;

-evidence measuring effectiveness in achieving ministry goals;

-established connections with local churches and evidence of ministry recipients being connected to healthy churches;

-kept MissionUSA advised of ministry activities.

No funding from MissionUSA for an agency applicant is considered unless members of Second Presbyterian have been active in the ministry or served on its board for at least one year in the period prior to submitting an application. Funding is on a year–to-year basis. No funding for capital projects will be considered.

Expectations of Agencies

Supported Agencies are expected:

to have a specific mission statement that defines the ministry and are encouraged to develop long-term ministry plans.

to have persons serving in leadership roles who possess skills, gifts, and experience necessary to accomplish the mission of the Agency.

to have capable, responsible persons serving as members of a board of directors or other oversight body. [This group should provide meaningful oversight and accountability, meet regularly, and include persons who are actively engaged in the ministry. The group should include persons who are not family members of principals of the organization.]

to embrace values and promote programs that are consistent with mission of Second Presbyterian Church and are encouraged to have a written statement of faith.

to have specific short-term goals for their ministry and to report on efforts to accomplish these goals.

to advise MissionUSA promptly of any extraordinary circumstances which impact the ability of the Agency to carry on ministry activities and of any material change in the focus of the ministry.

to include MissionUSA and the assigned liaison with the Committee with those to whom newsletters and other communications are sent.

to advise MissionUSA regularly of prayer requests and significant answers to prayers. [This communication should be directed Natasha Hughes the MissionUSA Administrative Assistant.]

to endeavor to build relationships with neighborhood churches and to connect ministry recipients with healthy churches.

to have, if practicable, representatives attend and participate fully in Second’s annual CItyServe weekend.

to submit each year by the end of January, if continued funding by MissionUSA is requested, an Annual Church Partner Report.
