A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Granville O. Carey.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Granville O. Carey, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, Granville O. Carey was born on October 1, 1923, a native of Mercer County, and longtime resident of Kenton County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on January 21, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Granville O. Carey was the loving son of the late Goldie D. Carey and Alice C. Divine Carey; he was the devoted husband to his late wife, Shirley Carey; he was the loving father of three sons, Marcus Carey of Poplar Grove, Matthew Carey of Edgewood, and Martin Carey of Burlington; and three daughters, Christy Boone of Loveland, Ohio; Pam Durstock of Burlington; and Patti Ramsey of Union; he was the proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren; and he also leaves behind a loving sister, Minnie Connley of Bradenton, Florida; and

WHEREAS, Granville O. Carey was a highly esteemed member of the Northern Kentucky community, where he was an architect by profession; his genius allowed him to design Lakeside Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon and where his six children were married; he designed Florence Baptist Church, the Boone County Cooperative Extension Service building in Burlington, the Tri-City YMCA in Florence, several Erlanger school buildings, hospitals, and retirement homes, and the old Covington Catholic High School; he also helped design the original layout for Northern Kentucky University; and

WHEREAS, Granville O. Carey served his country with pride and distinction in the United States Army Air Corps, and he also served on the Selective Service board during the Vietnam War; he was a member of the Kenton County Republican Party Executive Committee, and he formerly served as an Edgewood City Council member; and

WHEREAS, Granville O. Carey was an avid birdwatcher, and he was a member of the Cincinnati Bird Club; he and his wife spent many joyful hours watching birds nest in trees on property where the Fox Run Golf Course was built, and after it was built, he designed, built, and set up nesting boxes for eastern bluebirds on the Fox Run Golf Course; and

WHEREAS, Granville O. Carey was a well loved member of his community; he was very intelligent, and enjoyed a variety of topics, from space exploration to diesel mechanics; he had a wonderful sense of humor, and his generosity and affable manner will be sorely missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing him; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Granville O. Carey has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow at the passing of Granville O. Carey, and extends to his family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Granville O. Carey.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mr. Marcus Carey, 3814 Dixie Highway, Erlanger, Kentucky 41018.
