STEP 1 Be first to lead by example and last to violate the standards.
STEP 2Be an example of positive attitude, teachable spirit, poise, and work ethics forthe team, excellence, accountability and initiative and last to make excuses.

STEP 3 Be first to come prepared to practices and games with a never-quit

Attitude.
STEP 4 Be First to praise others and be last to criticize.
STEP 5 Be first to listen, help and respect your fellow cheerleaders.
STEP 6 Be first to maintain a higher standard even under adversity and last to complain.
STEP 7 Be first to bring excitement and a sense of humor to cheerleading and livethe true meaning of “cheer” “leader”.

CAPTAINS’ DUTIES

  1. Be the first to practice and the last to leave. Make sure the facility is left clean (at practices and games) and all cheer items put away.
  1. Must cheer sideline with a positive attitude. You are a role model and must demonstrate support for our athletic teams, no matter what the score, situation or weather.
  1. Memorize all chants and call them at games. You will not be allowed to have a list of chants on the sideline to check.
  1. Carry a captain’s notebook with you at ALL times including practices and games
  1. Lead warm-ups and conditioning at ALL practices. Must have a list of exercises and perform ALL of them.
  1. Be prepared to lead a motivation game at ALL practices.
  1. Start and end with some upbeat idea, quote or motivation. Ideas could include setting a theme for the day and dressing for it to motivate the team. Be creative, have fun!
  1. Give out motivational notes/gifts to all cheerleaders at least once a week.
  1. Stay positive at ALL times and treat every member of the team as part of our cheer family!
  1. Support the coaches’ decisions at all times.
  1. Develop team bonding ideas
  1. Attend weekly captains’ meeting
  1. Be a motivator not a disciplinarian
  1. All ideas must be approved by coaches. All ideas need to be presented in writing to coaches ahead of time. Keep a copy for yourself in captain notebook and give a copy to your coach
  1. Set a theme for banquet and assist in preparing for it. Do not wait until the last minute to develop awards, gifts, etc.

Reminders and Concerns

Do not talk over your coach or interrupt her while she is talking

Be able to work with other captains

  • Give 110% at all times; setting a positive example for teammates
  • Be passing ALL classes at ALL times
  • Be respectful to everyone
  • Job or other responsibilities cannot interfere with cheer or captain duties
  • Develop solutions to problems versus complaining

You must follow these guidelines in order to continue as captain. Any violations will cause dismissal from the position as captain.
