In considering the uniqueness of our Training Centre being located in the Disability SA’s Highgate Park Building, which is also the home and residence of Disability SA clients, we require you to be aware of the following:-
That this is their (Disability SA clients) home
As residents of this building, they have rights
Staff and students need to respect resident’s rights but also be aware that some residents may pose challenging behaviours and can exhibit inappropriate social behaviour.
You are responsible for ensuring your personal safety by:
refraining from using the ‘Resident’s Only’ lift
using the stairs instead of a lift
seeking assistance where required and
report any incidents to your Trainer or Management of the Training Centre.
Use of Lifts
For security purposes from 6 pm each evening you will not be able to access the lifts to go up to level 2.
Stairwell Procedure
Due to the age of the building the lifts can be temperamental at times! You may prefer to utilise the stairs instead. Please use the following code to gain access to and from the stairwell.

Student Facilities
A kitchen is available with tea & coffee supplies provided by CSTDC which is
free to students. A fridge an microwave are also available for student use.
It is the student’s responsibility to keep this area clean and to wash, dry and return cups to the shelves provided.
Book a`cino Café
The Café, located on the ground floor, provides a good choice of drinks and food for lunches and is open 8.30am – 5.00pm, or you may bring your own packed lunch.
Computer Access
Two computers located at the entrance of Book @cino Café are free to use (if not in use already) with internet access and no logins required for CSTDC students requiring to do research.
Parking
Parking is available on Fisher Street or Highgate Street, (Side Street). Car spaces in
Gate 1, 2 & 3 are usually taken up by personal care workers and office staff of Disability SA.
It is advisable to allow additional time for parking to attend classes on time.

Students have access to an onsite telephone for course related telephone calls and emergencies. Please ask at reception.
Personal Property
Community Services Training and Development Centre do not accept any responsibility for loss or damage to personal effects.
Physical Facilities
All teaching facilities and equipment are to be maintained with respect and care of personal property.Staff and students must be mindful of all Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare aspects of the work-site in regard to personal and student’s wellbeing.

Morgan & Hay- CSTDC is a Registered Training Organisation successfully operating for over fourteen years and is committed to the delivery of quality training programs for training in Aged Care, Disability, Home & Community Care and Mental Health sectors.
We specialise in providing training in nationally recognised qualifications for Personal Care Workers, complying with the Australian Quality Training Framework standards for Registered Training Organisations.

We have a responsibility to you as a student to provide you with a quality of service that will assist you as much as possible in attaining your qualification.
CSTDC recognises that learners have different and diverse needs. Learning support is available to students if required. This can take the form of negotiating varied forms of presentation of work.
Student Records
Statements of Attainment or Qualifications will be issued to you on completion of your course. If a copy is requested to replace those already provided to students, a small fee will be incurred.
Student Responsibilities
General:
Ensure that all the information provided to Community Services Training and Development Centre (CSTDC) is accurate
Notify CSTDC of any contact changes (email, phone, address etc.)
Notify CSTDC Management of any difficulties or problems they may experience with CSTDC staff, procedures or training
Achieve satisfactory progress with their studies through participation or attendance as required
NOT submit or claim as their own, work derived from another source or work done by another person.
A student may withdraw from program/course by giving notice in writing to CSTDC. He or she will be given recognition for any completed modules/units to date. A Statement of Attainment will be issued.
Class Attendance:
If at any time and for any reason, you are unable to attend classes, please follow the listed procedures:
- Contact CSTDC office on 8273 3400
- Speak to a course co-ordinator to arrange an alternative date to make up for your missed class.
- If your training is funded by the Government or an organisation, a medical certificate will be required if there is non attendance in class of more than 3 consecutive training days.
Use of Mobiles in class rooms:
Mobile phones are to be switched off during class times. Mobiles are not to be used whilst the trainer is teaching.
Behaviour in the classroom:
Any behaviour or distractions in class by a student which interferes with the ‘Trainers Right to Teach’ and the ‘Students Right to Learn’ will be initially dealt with by the trainer. Any further actions required will be in a meeting with CSTDC’s General Manager.
Study Groups:
If students are using a classroom for study, please consider and be aware that adjoining classrooms are being used for training and to keep the noise down.
Attire:Please wear suitable casual clothing and comfortable shoes to all training sessions.
Assignments:
Dates will be set for submitting assignment or assessment activities.
When submitting assessment work you need to include an ‘Assessment Cover Sheet’(see page 8) at the front of your work & a ‘Competency Record’(see page 9) sheet at the back of your work. Complete the participant’s requirement on this competency record sheet and please assist data management by writing your class group number on the top of this record sheet. Both these sheets must be handed in for every unit on your training plan.
Both sheets are available in each classroom
Please Note: Homework submitted without these two sheets will be handed back to student to be resubmitted.
If assignment work is not ready to submit by the expected date, you must apply for an extension. An ‘extension application form’ must be completed and approved by a trainer. You will be notified if granted
Crisis or emergency situations for non completion of you assignment must be discussed with the trainer
It is the student’s responsibility to collect marked assignments. Please ask the reception for any assignment work to collect.
If requiring another person to collect your assignment, please provide the person with a signed letter giving authorisation.
Completed assignments will be retained at CSTDC for a period of 1 month only after completion of your training.
Please contact CSTDC Administration Officer to arrange the return of any uncollected assignments if you a distant learner student.
Plagiarism and Collusion- Plagiarism is the act of directly copying work without referencing or acknowledgement of the original work. It is considered a form of cheating. Collusion is the inclusion of the work of others rather than your own. Plagiarism and collusion is not acceptable by CSTDC or any other educational facility. In the case where a student is found of this behaviour, an investigation will be dealt with by management of CSTDC.
Please Note:
Appropriate Clothing for Manual Handling & Personal Care Practical Training
Pants, shorts (no skirts), non revealing tops, no tight clothing to interfere with movement, closed in shoes (no high heels), no dangling jewellery (plain wedding band is OK), long hair to be tied back.
Lunch in the classrooms:
Eating of lunch is permitted in the classroom.
Any leftover food, rubbish or drink bottles are to be placed in the Kitchen Bin.
Please do not use outside cigarette tray/bins for rubbish as this is a fire hazard.

Learner Feedback Surveys will be issued to you at the commencement of your course. Your feedback plays an important role in developing the quality of your education and assists us to continually improve training at this organisation
Forms
Application for Extension Forms
Application for Extension forms are provided in your folder on commencement of your course.
When completing the Extension Application Form please ensure you fill out all information required;
The extension form must have your name and last name and a way to notify you of application approval such as Mobile or Email.
Name of Course; the name of the course that you are enrolled in, e.g. Certificate III in Home and Community Care etc.
Group Number; the number of your class group.
Unit Code;the full unit code must be filled in e.g. Follow safety procedures for direct care work, the code is CHCOHS312A, otherwise we won’t know which unit you are asking for the extension for. Please only put one unit per allocated line.
Trainers Name;this is needed for each unit as the trainer that delivered that particular subject will most likely be the one approving the extension form and following up over dues.
Reason for Extension; this part is not needed to be filled out unless it is your second application for that particular unit, or if you are requesting more than two weeks for extension.
Please sign and date and hand into reception in the incoming homework box for it to be marked in.
If you have filled one in from home or are part of E-Learning you may fax, email or post the application for extension form in.
If you have more than three units for the allocated spaces on the extension form please fill out a second application form.
Additional forms are available in appropriately marked boxes in the training rooms or from reception.
Assessment Cover Sheet
An Assignment Cover Sheet must be slipped into the front of the plastic sleeve with your homework. The purpose of the assignment cover sheet is to help track your home work so it doesn’t get lost or misplaced. Filling it in properly will help the trainers recognise your work for marking and making notes in your files. Please remember yours it not the only homework the trainers mark at any one time.
The following details are a must;
Students Name; your name must be written clearly on the cover page.
Group/Class; this is the number given to your group/ class that you are in, and is necessary for tracking your assignments to your personal file.
Subject Code: CHC; each assignment has its own subject code, e.g. Follow safety procedures for direct care work is CHCOHS312A. It is necessary to fill in the whole code.
Trainers Name; for each assignment you must fill in the name of the trainer who held the class for that unit.
Assignment Cover Sheets are found in boxes in both the main training rooms, or can be provided by reception when needed. Feel free to take as many as needed.
Please take note of what is written at the bottom of the Assignment Cover Sheet; without the Competency Record Sheet and other details provided, homework may not be able to be marked and will be handed back to you to be submitted again.
Notification of Withdrawal
In the event you for any reason at all are no longer able to participate in your course we would greatly appreciate it if you could fill out a Notification of Withdrawal form. You can remove the one attached or photocopy it or ask reception for a copy.

Work Placement
A National Police Clearance is required to undertake Work Placement and is also required to gain work in the Community Services Industry.We will always strive to place students in an area where they wish to work and in close proximity to their home. However, we can’t guarantee this. We will however work with students to try and match their requirements as closely as possible.
Community Services Training and Development Centre only facilitate work placements, possible traineeship or employment is at the discretion of the organisation.
Work placement is an opportunity to for you to demonstrate your skills learned & show your abilities.
Community Services Training and Development Centrecannot guaranteeoffers of employment on completion of your work placement as this is an agreement between the organisation and the student.
Please note that if a recommendation for employment is forthcoming, normal recruitment processes will be actioned by the organisation (e.g. medical assessments, reference checks, police clearance sighted and possible interview etc.) before confirmation of employment is given.
Please be aware that the process of recruitment can vary in length of time to determine an outcome.

Whilst on Work Placement Students are to wear clothing suitable for the role and to abide by the policies and procedures of the organisation.
