SS1 Day 3

Hello

PE: Did you know that you can never teach a child to sing out of tune? You will only teach him that singing is a safe, fun, acceptable thing to do. This is why we encourage you to sing in class even if you’re CONVINCED you can’t sing a note. That’s the magic of the Music Together circle. It’s one of the only places you make music, sing and dance and we don’t care how well you do it. Everyone is welcome. If you’ve ever had your child say “Mommy don’t sing” talk to me after class and I’ll let you know why EVERY child will say it eventually even if their mom is professional singer!! But right now we’re going to get singing so let it out today and so we can create a circle of singing! 

Canoe Song - A

  • Set up two long canoes (two lines facing the front). You can use a drum if you like to lead the canoes.
  • Set up imaginary water play singing around the notes D F A – splish splash, is the water cold? Where’s your paddle? Can let parents know that we may have some ‘swimmers’ and that’s ok. 
  • Start on Dip Dip and Swing to get rhythmic paddling action going (ostinato)
  • Sing verse on a vocable so everyone can easily join in the singing
  • You can then play with some or all of:
  • Singing the verse together with the words
  • Having the group sing on the ostinato while you sing the verse
  • Have one canoe sing the ostinato and one sing the verse and then switch
  • Singing verse with vocables
  • Could do a fast verse and go through the rapids and then come out the other side in the calm waters…
  • Clear finish with unison singing or conducted ending with two parts, ritardando…something solid.
