CLANDESTINE METH LAB SAFETY AND AWARENESS

Today, Special Agent John B. Butterworth of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Clandestine Laboratory/Cannabis Suppression Unit, will speak on “Clandestine Meth Lab Safety and Awareness”. He will talk about methamphetamine, providing statistical information, discussing its effects, and explaining how it is manufactured. He will also speak about the role of first responders, social workers, and local residents when encountering clandestine drug labs in their community.

Special Agent Butterworth is a graduate of Marion Technical College and has expansive law enforcement experience in narcotics and criminal investigations. He began his law enforcement career as a communications deputy with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO). He was a general duty detective when he left CCSO to work for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. While in Marion County, Special Agent Butterworth worked many different assignments and completed training as a licensed helicopter pilot.

He was hired by BCI in March 2012 for the newly created Casino Gaming Unit and less than a year later, was re-assigned to the unit in which he works today. Special Agent Butterworth responds to and coordinates responses to clandestine drug laboratories throughout the State of Ohio, including Marion County. He has been certified as a clandestine laboratory team member and site safety officer since 2004.

HELP: If you have or know of some secure lockable office space we could use, mostly for storage of documents, contact the Secretary @ 740-341-4842. No phone, fax or computer connection needed. It preferably should be lockable, and heated and cooled to preserve our documents.
