Art Poem
Using the romantic poems we have studied as a guide, as well as the romanticism notes and TP-CASTT method, create your own Art Poem. Select a work of art and write a poem about it, in which you either place yourself in the piece of art as you describe it, or you imagine a story about it. There are several pieces of art displayed around the room. Choose one that appeals to you in some way and use it as the inspiration for your romantic poem. Be sure to indicate the number of the artwork chosen.
Here are some general guidelines for writing your poem:
- Make sure your poem has a main idea or theme that corresponds with the visuals of the artwork
- Include some (at least three) of the following attributes of romanticism- interest in the common man and/or childhood, strong senses, emotions and feelings, awe of nature, celebration of the individual and the importance of imagination
- Include some of the following types (at least three) of figurative language- simile, metaphor, symbolism, personification, imagery, alliteration, etc.
- Must be school appropriate. Watch language and content. When in doubt, ask your teacher.
The poem should be at least 14 lines long and reflect both the piece of artwork you are referencing and the characteristics of romanticism we have studied. It can be any style, free-form, blank verse, rhyming, etc.
This will then be revised and polished at home and submitted, typed, as a final draft on Friday, February 13th.
You will be graded on your use of romantic attributes, figurative language/poetic devices, reference to the piece of art, and overall creativity and imagination. The final typed poem will be worth 20 points.
