Description of Service
Old Age Psychiatric Services consultants link with specified GP practices and are based at MossleyHillHospital. Inpatient beds for organic and functional illnesses are based at MossleyHillHospital. Day Services are available also at MossleyHillHospital. A continuing healthcare facility is available at Heys Court, 18 Woolton Road, LiverpoolL19 5NG. The Psychotherapy Service is based in Mossley House on the Mossley Hill site.
The OAP Service provides a range of services,including psychological and social therapies, and medical treatments which are tailored to an individuals needs.
These services are for all people aged 65 or more living within the geographical area covered by Mersey Care NHS Trust, and people under age 65 who suffer from young onset dementia.

Community Offices (on MossleyHillHospital site)
Heys Court (Garston – 5 miles from Mossley Hill)
General Overview of Training Experience and Job Role
There will be an expectation that you attend local postgraduate teaching programmes, as well as specific programmes that are facilitated.
  • Hospital Teaching Program
  • Opportunities exist to attend Academic meetings
  • Individual supervision – weekly 1 hour by Dr. Chatfield
  • Opportunities exist for training by the Clinical Psychologist
  • Regular opportunities exist to teach medical students and other clinical observers attached to Dr. Chatfield.
  • Opportunities to gain knowledge of the Mental Health Act (1983) and Mental Capacity Act (2005).
  • Opportunity and supervision is available to undertake an audit project.
Responsibilities of Trainee
  • To assess, review and contribute to the management of inpatients.
  • To join and contribute to ward round held once a week.
  • Memory/outpatient clinic – Up to 4 new patients per week and own follow up patients per week are seen by the trainee under supervision by Dr. Chatfield.
  • To maintain up to date electronic and other medical records to a high standard.
  • To attend CPA/Care Coordination meetings.
  • To provide support to and see carers/relatives as required.
