POST TITLE:Receptionist
LOCATION:Windhill Green Medical Centre / Cliffe Avenue Surgery
RESPONSIBLE TO:Senior receptionist
ACCOUNTABLE TO:Practice Manager / GP Partners
JOB PURPOSE: To provide efficient, effective and confidential reception services for the patients and the practice.

Key Role
- Answer the telephone and deal with queries.
- Making appointments, amending appointments, reminding patients of their appointments
- Deal with patients at the reception desk with discretion and respect their confidentiality.
- Preparing the consulting rooms for the GPs
- Dealing with mail
- Dealing with prescription requests
- Dealing with electronic tasks
- Various routine administration tasks as allocated e.g. registering new patients, birth/death notifications.
- Securing the building as necessary
COMMUNICATION & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The postholder will be expected to work with patients of the practice, all members of the team, hospital contacts and other external customers, maintaining and enhancing effective working relationships.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Effort
- Required to concentrate to issue prescriptions correctly, take messages accurately and concisely, and to enter details into the computer system accurately. Required to listen carefully to requests from patients, doctors and colleagues and respond appropriately.
Physical Effort
- May be required to travel between different sites within the Practice to cover absences
- Frequent requirement to use a keyboard for long periods of time.
Emotional Effort
- Empathy, diplomacy and tact are often required when dealing with patients and their relatives/carers.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Starting Salary:£14,898p.a. pro rata(£7.64 per hour)
Yearly increments for first 3 years.
Method of Payment:Monthly by Credit transfer.
Hours of Work:24hours per week
Including Saturday mornings (1 in 4) (currently working 1:8)
Normal Working Hours:Monday08:00 – 13:00at Cliffe Avenue Surgery
Tuesday10:00 – 15:00 at Windhill Green Medical Centre (1/2 hr lunch)
Wednesday08:30 – 13:00at Cliffe Avenue Surgery
Thursday15:00 – 19:00 at Cliffe Avenue Surgery
Friday13:00 – 18:30 at Windhill Green Medical Centre
0 – 5 Years Service / 27 days plus 8 bank holidaysAfter 5 Years Service / 29 days plus 8 bank holidays
After 10 Years Service / 33 days plus 8 bank holidays
Annual Leave:
Holiday entitlement and bank holidays will be pro rata for part time employees.
Superannuation:This post is optionally superannuable and the current employee contribution rate is 5% of salary (NHS Pension Scheme). The practice operates automatic enrolment into the NHS Pension Scheme or NEST.
Health Assessment:The post is subject to satisfactory pre-employment health assessment declaration.
Hepatitis B/Chicken PoxThe post holder must be Hepatitis B & Chicken pox immune or
Immunity: willingto undertake immunisation.

Smoke Free Policy:The Practice has a smoke free policy and it is the responsibility of employees to co-operate fully with management in the implementation of this policy. The purpose of the policy is to provide a healthy smoke-free environment for the benefit of patients, visitors and staff, and all employees are expected to comply, this includes all premises and grounds.
Attendance:The Practice must ensure that the needs of the service are met and these are established on the basis of full attendance from all staff. The Practice therefore has a positive approach to absence management through its capability guidelines.
Training & Development:The post holder must take responsibility in agreement with the Practice manager for his/her own personal development by ensuring continuous professional development remains a priority. The post holder will undertake all mandatory training required for the role and ad hoc training as appropriate to the role.
Special Conditions:As a term of your employment you can be required to undertake such other duties commensurate with your grade/hours of work, either at your initial place of work or at any of the Practices’s establishments.
