Car Bonnet Design competition 

A big car rally from Sheffield to Monte Carlo is taking place in September 2018. Car bonnets for the cars taking place in the rally will be designed and decorated by local artists and displayed in Sheffield before the rally starts.

BBC Radio Sheffield is entering a team in the Rally and we need you to design our car bonnet. The theme for the car bonnet: reflect Sheffield as a community and how Radio Sheffield brings people together

To enter our competition you must design your artwork using the car bonnet template provided. You must also fill in this entry form, carefully read the terms and conditions below, and return your design and form by post to BBC Radio Sheffield Car Bonnet Competition, 54 Shoreham Street, Sheffield, S1 4RS.

Rules for BBC Radio Sheffield’s car bonnet design competition

  1. BBC Radio Sheffield’s car bonnet design competition (the “Competition”) is open to residents living in the defined council areas of Sheffield City, Barnsley Borough, Doncaster Borough, Rotherham Borough, North East Derbyshire District, Chesterfield Borough, Bassetlaw District, and Bolsover District. You must be aged 12 or over on Monday 21st May 2018 (the closing date for entries). You cannot enter if; you or close relatives work for the BBC or BBC Group company; if you are already involved in the Bangers and Cash rally; if you are involved with the Charity Roundabout or if you are closely connected with the competition. The BBC reserves the right to request proof of age for entrants as well as parent’s or guardian’s consent (if aged under 18) You are not permitted to enter if you are a professional artist (the majority of your income must not be generated from designing or selling artwork for you to be eligible to enter). Only one entry per person may be submitted. No joint entries will be allowed.

  2. If using a computer programme to design an entry, the design must still be all the entrant’s own work. Materials such as clip art or photographs/internet images will disqualify the entry.
  3. If entrants submit more than one entry, we will judge the first entry received and disregard the others.
  4. The entry must be the entrant’s own original work and not defame nor breach any copyright or contain anything that could be deemed offensive.
  5. All submissions must include: the entrant’s name, age, date of birth (if individual is aged 18 or under), address including postcode, parent/guardian’s name (if individual is aged 18 or under) and a contact telephone number which can be filled in on the appropriate sections of the entry form. We will process your personal information in accordance with our privacy notice (set out below). Entrants must ensure they have read the Terms and Conditions. This must be confirmed by completing the tick box on the entry form. The telephone number provided must allow you to be contacted between Tuesday22nd May and Thursday 24th May 2018.

  1. Entries must be RECEIVED by no later than midnight on Monday 21st May 2018. Late, incomplete or illegible entries will be disqualified. The BBC cannot take any responsibility for any technical failure or malfunction, including but not limited to any affecting postal services, which may result in any entry being delayed, lost or not properly registered or recorded. The BBC will not be able to return entries.
  2. By submitting an entry for the Competition, the entrant (and the entrants parent/guardian if aged under 18) are deemed to have given consent for the entry to be published free of charge by the BBC/BBC Studios, the Bangers and Cash rally, the Roundabout Charity, in all media, including television, print and internet, for all purposes as it wishes. The BBC may wish to display entries containing an entrant’s name. If the entrant is aged under 18 then in all of the above instances working in line with the BBC’s Child Protection Policy, to prevent jigsaw identification of any entrant. BBC Radio Sheffield may wish to display entries containing an entrant’s name and council area in a website gallery or on Facebook and/or Twitter or on BBC Look North (TV) as they come in throughout the Competition entry window. It is a condition of entry that the winner (or the winner’s parent or guardian if under 18) will sign any additional documentation in order to assign copyright and all related rights to the Roundabout charity and the BBCand to waive all moral rights the winner may have in the winning design. If you have any concerns about this requirement, we would advise you not to enter

  5. Following the rally the car bonnet will be auctioned to raise money for Roundabout
  6. All entries will be judged in the first instance by members of the BBC Radio Sheffield production team. This first judging panel will decide which entries should be put forward to the second stage of judging. The first judging round will select no more than 30 best entries considering the following criteria:

  1. Up to 30 verified entries in total will go through from the first round of judging to the second round of judging.
  2. The second judging stage will look at up to the 30 best entries and be carried out by a judging panel made up of a BBC Radio Sheffield presenter, someone from the Roundabout charity and a professional local artist. From the 30 entries, the panel will choose one winner and two runners up.
  3. All three top entrants will be invited to the BBC Radio Sheffield studio on

Tuesday 29th May 2018 where the winner will be revealed at around 8.35am live on-air.

  1. The named winning design will then be painted on the BBC Radio Sheffield car bonnet and displayed before the rally sets off and then fixed onto the car which the BBC Radio Sheffield team will use in the rally from Sheffield to Monte Carlo.
  2. Criteria

All entries will be judged against the following criteria:

 Design - The artwork reflect Sheffield as a community and how Radio Sheffield brings people together.

 Creative - The design must be original, imaginative and striking;

 Original - The design must be unique and it must not replicate an existing design or graphic design or feature any logos of companies, charities or organisations.

20. The prize consists of:

 Your design will be painted onto the car bonnet of the car owned by BBC Radio Sheffield for the rally and displayed in Sheffield before the rally sets off.

  1. The winner must be available to attend the BBC Radio Sheffield studio for the announcement of the winning design at 8.35am on Tuesday 29thMay 2018. The winner must be accompanied by a parent or guardian if he/she is aged under 18.
  2. These dates are non-movable, but we reserve the right to change them due to editorial/production considerations.
  3. The BBC will obtain an appropriate child licence for the winner if needed should they be 18 or below. Reasonable travel costs will be met by BBC Radio Sheffield for the three finalists to attend the BBC Sheffield studios on Tuesday 29thMay 2018. The top three entrants will be deemed to have agreed to be interviewed and filmed during their day in studio and on location by the BBC Radio Sheffield team. The parent/guardian of the winner (if aged 18 and below) will be required to sign contributor consent forms on behalf of their child/ward and themselves to allow the BBC to use the contributions in all media for all purposes.
  4. Telephone calls will be made to the 30 short listed entrants and their parent/guardians (if aged under 18) between Tuesday 22nd May- Thursday 24th May in order to check eligibility. If an entrant is unable to be contacted after reasonable attempts have been made to do so, the BBC reserves the right to offer their place to the next best entrant. Unsuccessful entrants will not be contacted. Entries cannot be returned to entrants.
  5. The design must represent a piece of work that can be reproduced on a car bonnet.
  6. BBC Radio Sheffield orRoundabout may need to make minor reasonable modifications to the winning design, however the design which features as the BBC Radio Sheffield car bonnet shall recognisably be the winning design of the Competition.
  7. The prize will be as stated. The prize cannot be transferred and there is no cash alternative.
  8. The top three entries will be notified from Thursday 24thMay 2018 by telephone, as per the contact details provided in their entry. In the event of one of the top three being unable to be contacted, after reasonable attempts have been made, or being unable to attend the BBC Radio Sheffield studio on Tuesday 29thMay 2018 or if the winner is found to be in breach of the rules or fails to take up their prize for any reason, including illness, unavailability, problems in having consent for absence from school, licensing difficulties OR problems with obtaining a sign off from their doctor regarding state of health to participate, the BBC reserves the right to offer the prize to a runner-up who will be ranked in order of merit but it is not obliged to do so.
  9. The BBC’s and the judges’ decision as to the winner is final. No correspondence relating to the Competition will be entered into.
  10. Entrants will be expected to take part in post-Competition publicity for the BBC and Roundabout.
  11. The BBC reserves the right to cancel the Competition or change any of these rules at any stage if deemed necessary in its opinion or if circumstances arise outside of its control. Any such changes will be duly communicated. The BBC cannot be held responsible for any unforeseen events relating to, or the cancellation of any related element of this Competition outside of the control of the BBC.
  12. The parent/guardian of an applicant is deemed to have accepted these Terms and Conditions when consenting to the application of the relevant entrant.
  13. The Competition complies with the BBC Code of Conduct for Competitions and Voting, which can be found on:

The BBC and/or any other organisation associated with the Competition accepts no liability for any damage, loss, liabilities (including direct, indirect, incidental, consequential or punitive damage) injury or disappointment incurred or suffered by you as a result of entering the Competition, not being able to enter into the Competition or accepting any of the prizes. Nothing shall exclude the liability of the BBC for (i) fraud, (ii) for death or personal injury as a result of that party's negligence, or (iii) any other cause of action which cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law. In no event shall the BBC and/or any other organisation associated with the Competition’s total liability to you for all damages, losses, or causes of action exceed the price of the relevant prize.
  2. If any of these clauses should be determined to be illegal, invalid or otherwise unenforceable then it shall be severed and deleted from these Terms and Conditions and the remaining clauses shall survive, remain in full force and effect.
  3. These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any claim, dispute or matter arising under or in connection with these Terms and Conditions.

Retaining your personal information

In relation to applicants, the BBC will retain your personal information until 31st October 2018 If you are successful with your application, we will retain your personal information for a period of two years.

Sharing your personal information

If you are successful, we will share your personal information with our partner charity, Roundabout and your name will be published on their website.
