Bowne-Munro PTA General Meeting Minutes

A room parent meeting was held at 6:30 PM.

Jessica Logan called the meeting to order at 7:04 pm.

Minutes

Paula Storm read the minutes from the May 16 meeting and they were approved as presented.

Principal’s Report

Welcome back! We had a smooth school opening. Thank you for the Back to School Breakfast and the Ice Cream Social. We welcome feedback on how to make Back to School Night run smoother. We are looking forward to the Fit A Thon this Friday. The preschool will be included. We are also looking forward to the upcoming Brown Bag lunch. Mrs. Ficke is coordinating a crochet project for the American Heart Association. Dr. Boley’s door is always open and she welcomes suggestions, including guest speakers we would like to hear from.

Treasurer’s Report

Kris Grove presented the budget and it was approved as presented. Kris then presented the Treasurer Report. We showed an income of $1,230 so far for September. This was due to spiritwear and membership dues for 79 members. We had expenses of $2,209, which included deposits for Cultural Arts Assemblies, handbag bingo prizes, spiritwear, and the Ice Cream Social. The Treasurer’s report was approved as presented.

Correspondence

Debbie read thank you notes from Mrs. Ferrara for sponsoring the fifth grade rockets and bus to Philadelphia, Dr. Boley for the Welcome Back breakfast, and Mrs. Birchbicklerfor a gift.

President’s Report

Jessica thanked the teachers for serving the ice cream to students during the Ice Cream Social. She also thanked Alicia Conroy for arranging visits from the fire department and Rescue Squad. The PTA will be sponsoring the Sports Squad with Mr. Portera again this year. Fifth grade starts 10/6, fourth 1/5, and third 3/16. Committee members are needed for Fright Night. Thank you to the teachers for agreeing to manage a room again this year. We also need an artistic volunteer to maintain the PTA bulletin board in the hallway outside the main office.

Kris Grove mentioned she maintains a private Shutterfly account for pictures taken at school events. Children with no Media form are not posted.

Committee Reports

  • Book Fair –set up is on 10/17. The fair will run through 10/20. Kris Grove announced the theme this year is Book-a-neer, a pirate theme. Book catalogue and flyer for volunteers will come home early October. The Sign Up Genius will show when classes are scheduled to shop, so you can coordinate your volunteer slot accordingly. We will also stay open 1 late night.
  • Community – Jessica attended EB Day and sold 1 magnet. Students had the opportunity to dunk a teacher in the dunk tank. Tennis and Kid Coders after school programs are planned for Bowne-Munro. The EBEF fashion show fundraiser is planned for 10/19. Tickets are $40 each. EBEF will also hold its annual Barnes & Noble fundraiser on 12/3. The Department of Recreation is planning mini-camps during school breaks. They also have drop-off movie night and a Thanksgiving and Holiday basket collection planned.
  • Fundraising –KidStuff books were placed on students’ desks at Back to School Night. Eva Nazario stated she thought this worked well. The School store is open every Friday during lunches. Leah Frederick manages the store. A sign up genius will be sent out requesting volunteers. The McDonald’s Dine to Donate raised $118 and they were easy to work with. Our ongoing fundraisers include: Stop N Shop (need to register annually), Shoparoo ($67 raised last year), and Box Tops collection. There is another Box Tops Blitz planned later in the year. Last year, Miss Drozdowski was awarded an Amazon gift card for her classroom, and each student in her class received a free book from Scholastic. The Mixed Bag Designs Fundraiser begins 10/7.
  • Fifth grade – There is a fifth grade committee meeting immediately following this meeting.
  • Teacher liaisons –Miss Figueroa thanked the PTA for the Back to School Breakfast and Scholastic books. Miss Drozdowski thanked the PTA for always making September feel special.

Upcoming Events

Jessica Logan mentioned the following events:

  • The Mum Sale will be held on 10/6 & 10/7. Please e-mail if you cannot pick up at that time. 9 inch pots will be $5 each or 5/$20, hanging baskets $7 each or 2/$12, and large 12 inch pots $9 each or 2/$16.
  • During the month of October, pick a pumpkin at Clark Farms and a portion of the sale will be donated to the PTA. Just bring our flyer.
  • Spiritwear orders are due on Friday. We will try to hold some inventory on hand for later in the year.
  • Save the date for our Designer Handbag Bingo on 2/3/17.
  • Brown Bag Lunches are scheduled for 10/7, 2/23, and 5/17.
  • Picture day is 10/14. We are using a new studio this year, BNL.
  • The clothing drive is scheduled for 10/21. Drop off will be in the back of the school.
  • Fright Night is planned for 10/28. Students come in costume. Many fun activities are planned, including a DJ.
  • The Halloween parade & parties are planned for 10/31 at 2:30 PM.

Open discussion

  • Beth Nilla inquired about Outdoor Movie Night. This event has been replaced by Playground Playdate this year.
  • Afsana shared information about the Mini Makers Fair at Barnes & Noble 11/5-11/6.
