Middleton, Aug. 8 1951 - The death occurred on July 22 of one of Middleton's oldest and highly respectable citizens in the person of Mrs. Avis BRYDEN. The late Mrs. Avis BRYDEN was born 80 years ago, a daughter of the late George and Esther FORBES. She had been in failing health for sometime, but only confined to her bed for two weeks. She will be missed in home as well as by friends and neighbors, also by the Church and Trinity Anglican Guild of which she was a member. In the year of 18(?)9, she married Frank MINGO, who predeceased her in 1893, also two sons Frank and Ashford. In June 1902 she was married to Arthur BRYDEN who survives her also six grandchildren and a number of other relatives. After a short service at the house the remains were conveyed to Trinity Anglican Church where a large crowd had gathered to pay their respect to the aged citizen. Service being conducted by rector Rev. F.W. PLUMMER. The hymns sung were "Forever with the Lord," "Rock of Ages" and her favorite, "Abide With Me". The pall bearers were George DOUGLAS, William MURPHY, Victor FORBES, DeCitt MacLEOD, David MINGO and George CLARK. The floral tributes were beautiful giving silent testimony to the esteem in which the departed was held.

Tatamagouche, March 14 - This community was saddened on Monday evening, March 14, by the passing of Mrs. Jane M. BRYDEN, wife of Charles P. BRYDEN, and daughter of the late George CLARK and Elizabeth BELL. Deceased was 74 years of age and possessed a gentle disposition and cheerful manner, which endeared her to all. She was a valued member of Sedgewick Memorial Presbyterian Church and Women's Missionary Society. She is survived by her husband, three daughters, (Mary) Mrs. W.R. MacLEOD, East Hartford, Connecticut; (Dorothy), Mrs. A.A. WRIGHT, Montreal, Que; two sons, Harry R., Tatamagouche; Clark, Trail, B.C.; two sisters - (Anne) Mrs. William ROSS, Tatamagouche; (Harriett), Mrs. Harry W. MENZIE, Lethbridge, Alta; also one half-brother, David A. CUNNINGHAM, Tatamagouche, and eight grandchildren. The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon, March 17 at two o'clock from Sedgewick Memorial Church. The service was conducted by her former pastor, Rev. Lloyd MacLELLAN of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, assisted by Rev. James WILLIAMS, of Scotsburn, also a former pastor, who spoke very fittingly of the deceased. Members of both Sharon United and Sedgewick Memorial Choirs were in attendance. Hymns sung were - "The Lord's My Shepherd," "O God of Bethel," and "Abide With Me." There were many beautiful floral offerings. The pall-bearers were James MENZIE, Gordon CLARK, Arch. LOCKERBY, William NELSON, George CLARK and Alfred PERKINS. Interment was in the Sunnybrae Cemetery. Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved.

February 24, 1977. Tatamagouche - Harry Ross BRYDEN, 73, of Tatamagouche, N.S., died Sunday, February 6th, in Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital. Born in Tatamagouche he was the son of the late Charles and Jane (CLARK) BRYDEN. He was a resident of Tatamagouche, except for a few years in the U.S.A. He was a successful horticulturist and market gardener. Surviving are his wife, the former Muriel SMITH, three sons: Kenneth, Rossland, B.C.; Ross, Esterhazy, Sask.; Lloyd, Antigonish two daughters; Florence, (Mrs. John MERCER) Fruitvale, B.C.; Margaret Ann (Mrs. Keith MOORE) Victoria, B.C.; three sisters, Mrs. Mary MacLEOD, Old Saybrook, Conn.; Mrs. Dorothy WRIGHT, Ville de Lery, Quebec; Mrs. Ann NORRISH, St. Bruno, Quebec; a brother, Clark BRYDEN, Christina Lake, B.C.; 18 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren. Funeral service was held in Sedgewick Memorial Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, Feb. 9th, with Rev. Gordon MATHESON officiating. The Organist was Ken BECK. The choir sang "The Lord's My Shepherd", and "Abide with Me." George and Dorothy CLARK sang a duet "Precious Moments." Pallbearers were Alan LOCKERBY, Rex CLARK, James McKEEN, Andrew McBURNIE, Donald LANGILLE, Lawson McCONNELL. Burial was in Lockerby Cemetery

Chilliwack, B.C. - Muriel BRYDEN, 77, of Chilliwack, formerly of Tatamagouche, died Monday in Chilliwack General Hospital. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late George and Mabel (CASSIDY) SMITH. She was past noble of the Rebekah Lodge, Tatamagouche. Surviving are two daughters, Florence (Mrs. J. MERCER), Fruitvale, B.C.; Margaret (Mrs. K. MOORE), Victoria, B.C.; three sons, Kenneth, Trail, B.C.; Ross, Nelson, B.C.; Lloyd, Chilliwack; a brother, Rev. Fred SMITH, Florida; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret BONOBO, California, and Mrs. Helene DENEKE, Florida; 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The body is in Coulter's Funeral Home, Tatamagouche. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Sedgwick Memorial Presbyterian Church, Tatamagouche, Rev. Donald MacLEOD officiating, with burial in Lockerbies Cemetery, Tatamagouche. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society of Sedgwick Memorial Presbyterian Church.

1970. Mrs. Susan S. CLARK, 87, Tatamagouche, was buried following funeral service in Sedgwick Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was the daughter of the late Mary Anne (LOCKERBY) and James BRYDEN. She is survived by one daughter, Mary (Mrs. K.L. CRAWLEY), Amherst; one son, George, Tatamagouche, and six grandchildren. Her husband, George, one son, Arthur; two sisters, and five brothers predeceased her.

Tatamagouche, Nov. 10 - Many friends and relatives through the Province and the U.S.A. will regret to learn of the death of the late William BRYDEN who passed away early on Thursday morning November 8 1951 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roland CAMPBELL West New Annan. The deceased was 83 years of age and was a highly respected citizen and prominent farmer in this community. For the past seven years he suffered from ill health and made his home in New Annan. He was the son of the late James and Mary Anne BRYDEN. Surviving are four brothers Harry in Providence U.S.A. James in Fairview Alberta; Arthur in Denmark and Charlie in Tatamagouche and one sister Mrs. Susan K. CLARK of Tatamagouche. One sister Margaret nurse in Providence for a number of years predeceased him in 1922. Funeral Services was held from Sedgewick Memorial Presbyterian Church on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Rev. William ISAAC conducted the service. Favorite hymns led by the Choir were sung ' "The Lord's My Shepherd" "The Sands of Time" and "Abide with Me." Pall bearers were Arch and Clarence LOCKERBY; Harry BRYDEN; George CLARK; Roland CAMPBELL; and Delmar VINCENT. Interment was in Sunnyside Cemetery.

NEW GLASGOW - Marsh, Margaret "Margie" Morrison, 88, passed away september 3, 2003, in Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Margie was the daughter of the late James and Margaret Trott, Stellarton. She is survived by two sons, Darryl (Elaine) of Hamilton, ON and Fred (Eileen) of Edmonton, AB, and by two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, husbands Dennis and Henry and by one son Dennis and one daughter Margaret. She was also predeceased by three brothers, Alberta, Woodie and James; four sisters, Carrie, Patty, Emma and Connie. Cremation has taken place and there will be no service as per Margie's wishes. Donations may be made to the Glen Haven Buss Fund or to a charity of your choice. Special thanks to the staff of Glen Haven Manor for their kindness and care of Maggie in her last days.

Kemptown, Aug. 14 1942 - The many friends and relatives of the late Mrs. Margaret IRVING, wife of John C. IRVING, Kemptown, were

saddened on Thursday morning to hear of her passing, at the age of 56 years, after an illness of several months, during which time she was faithfully cared for by her loved ones. In her passing, the home and community suffered a severe loss. Being possessed of a cheerful disposition, she made friends wherever she went and always saw the bright side of everything. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles ARCHIBALD, of Kemptown, and is survived by her husband, one daughter (Alice) Mrs. Kenneth POOLE, three sons, David, Elmer, Roland, all of Kemptown, and eleven grandchildren. Also one sister, Mrs. John MARTIN of Winnipeg, who was with her during her illness, three brothers, Alfred of Kemptown, Alex of New Hampshire, Rhuben, of Kelowna, B.C., and a number of niece and nephews. The funeral service was held in the United Church at Kemptown on Saturday, Aug. 16, conducted by her pastor, Rev. J.A. BRADLEY, and was largely attended by friends and relatives, who came to pay their last respect to one they knew and loved so well. Pallbearers were all nephews of the deceased, Stanley ARCHIBALD, George ARCHIBALD, Charles ARCHIBALD, Russel McAULAY, James McAULAY, Thomas McAULAY. The floral tributes were many and beautiful, testifying to the high esteem in which the deceased was held. Brule, April 21, 1943 - Widespread regret prevailed throughout the village of River John when on Tuesday evening, March 24, word was received by George W. BAILLIE stating that his son, Sergt. "Jack" BAILLIE, R.C.A.F., was instantly killed in an airplane crash in the service of his country at Yarmouth, N.S. The remains arrived on the Friday night train and were accompanied by Flying Officer John WOODWORTH, R.C.A.F., who 13 years ago was associated with the family when a student pastor in the Presbyterian Church. Jack BAILLIE was the first of River John airmen to make the supreme sacrifice in the Second Great War and was accorded full military honors when one of the largest ever witnessed at River John services was held Sunday afternoon. Following a brief service at the deceased's residence, the lengthy cortege formed and proceeded to St. George's Presbyterian Church, where service was again conducted by the pastor, Rev. J.R. McDONALD. The flag draped casket was borne by the following pallbearers: Bill McDONALD, George CARRUTHERS, George McLEAN, Berwin MacLEOD, Robert McKAY and Carl McLEOD, all close friends of the deceased. The church was banked with floral tributes. The message of Rev. McDONALD, taking as his text Rev. 21-4, was a fitting tribute to the life just ended, and also offered words of comfort to the grief-stricken family. Flying Officer John WOODWORTH represented the R.C.A.F. at the service, spoke referring to the illustrious dead. The members of church choir rendered hymns "Unto The Hills," "Shall We Gather at the River," "Nearer My God to Thee" at the conclusion of the service the cortege reformed and continued (...) River John cemetery, where military honors were given. (...) BAILLIE, two sisters, Miss Jean BAILLIE R.N., Superintendent of operating room, Moncton Hospital, N.B., and Miss Beth BAILLIE R.N., Bermuda. Two brothers, James at home, and Flt. Sergt. Ralph BAILLIE in hospital "somewhere in England." Born at River John 24 years ago, son of George W. BAILLIE and the late Mary Myrtle CAMERON BAILLIE, he was a graduate of the local High School and later graduated from the Agricultural College, Truro, and previous to his enlistment he served as County Agriculture Representative in Victoria, B.C. He made his headquarters in Baddeck and although deeply engaged in his duties at Baddeck the call (...) duty came, and he willingly responded and now has answered with the same cheerfulness and courage the L(...) Great Call. It was remembered that during the winter he was a member of the rescue crew who went to the aid of Al CH(...)man, who made a forced landing in Labrador. Among friends from a distance (...) attended funeral was Mrs. H(...) FALLON, of Brighton, Mass., who (...) years past was a care taker of the BAILLIE children since the death of their mother nineteen years ago. The numerous beautiful floral tributes and many cards and letters of sympathy bore silent testimony to the high regard in which the deceased was held.

May 6, 1985. Upper Musquodoboit - George Gordon (Bud) FARNELL, 69, Upper Musquodoboit, died Monday in Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital. Born in Upper Musquodoboit, he was the son of Anna (CONNOR) FARNELL and the late Austin FARNELL. He was a carpenter and served overseas during the Second World War. He was employed at CFB Windsor Park in Halifax for a number of years. He was a member of St. James United Church, Upper Musquodoboit and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He is survived by his wife, the former Jennie MURRAY; three sons, Richard and Gregory, both of Middle Musquodoboit; Murray, Enfield; one daughter, Dianne (Mrs. Larry JOHNSON), Upper Stewiacke; three brothers, Eric, Welland, Ont.; Earle, Dartmouth; Reg, Upper Musquodoboit; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel LAWLOR, Dartmouth; Marion (Mrs. Woodrow MASKILL), Musquodoboit Harbour; eight grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Louise. The body will be in Ettinger's Funeral Home, Middle Musquodoboit after noon today. Funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in St. James United Church, Upper Musquodoboit, Rev. Ross MacDONALD officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest cemetery. Annie was a school teacher teaching at Carriboo River, Mountain Road School, River John and also in Scotch Hill. She loved poetry and wrote many of her own poems and was an avid reader. She was Secretary/Treasurer of the Carriboo River Upper Cemetery for many years. Born in Stellarton, she was the former Sarah Taylor YOUNG, a daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Thomas YOUNG. She was a member of Trinity United Church New Glasgow where she was active in Church Groups. She was member of the IODE. She is survived by her husband Allan, four sons, Gary, Regina; Alastair, Toronto; Ian, at home; Donald, Moncton; two sisters Mrs. Nellie MOSS, New Glasgow; Edna (Mrs. Tal HENDERSON), Dartmouth; a brother William, New Glasgow; eight grand-children. She was predeceased by a brother George. Burial will be in the Abercrombie Cemetery.
