Common Wealth Endeavors to Present

Sandi Toksvig’sBully Boy

Production will run at Common Ground Theatre from June 12-28, 2014

Durham, N.C.—May 25, 2014—Common Wealth Endeavors will present Sandi Toksvig’sBully Boyas the first production of its 2014 season. Directed by Kari Barclay and starring Justin Brent Johnson and Common Wealth founder GregorMcElvogue, this production follows a two-night staged reading of the play presented by Common Wealth in August 2013, a fundraiser that raised $500 for Iran Afghanistan Veterans of America.

Bully Boy tells thegripping story of a Falklands War veteran sent to a combat zone in the Middle East to probe allegations of severe misconduct by a young soldier accused of throwing an eight-year-old local boy down a well. As the interrogation develops, we discover that the so-called truth in a modern insurgency is often a point of view rather than a fact—and that the shared experience of war means these two men have far more in common than they could have anticipated.

Toksvig’s play, which launched the debut season of St. James Theatre in London in 2012,is a timely and insightful exploration of the challenging moral issues of contemporary military occupationand the effects of war on the mental health of serving soldiers.

The Common Wealth Endeavors productionwill run at Common Ground Theatre in Durham,Thursdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m., June 12-28, 2014, with matinees at 3 p.m. on June 15 and 22. Theperformance on June 12 is a pay-what-you-can preview, with a cash-only $5 minimum.
