PERSON SPECIFICATION: SENCO / Inclusion Manager
AREA /ESSENTIAL
/DESIRABLE/HELPFUL
EDUCATION /- Qualified Teacher Status with recent successful teaching experience in a primary/secondary or special school setting
- Experience in teaching pupils with a range of SEN/AEN
- SENCO National Award qualification (or willingness to undertake it)
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development relevant to the SENCO role
EXPERIENCE /
- Experience of working in the SEN/AEN field or as part of an SEN team
- Experience of effectively managing staff and/or resources linked with SEN
- Experience in managing a team
- Experience of working with external multi professional agencies
- Experience of introducing new initiatives and/or of managing change
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING /
- Knowledge and understanding of national and regional educational issues relating to provision for pupils with SEN
- Understanding of effective teaching and learning strategies including behaviour for learning
- Knowledge and understanding of current and national issues in relation to ‘narrowing the achievement gap’ for SEN pupils at EYFS, KS1 and KS2.
- Good understanding of best practice and current educational thinking
- Knowledge and understanding of Pupil Premium and effective strategies to ‘narrow the gap’
- Knowledge and experience of school improvement planning
- Knowledge and experience of monitoring, evaluation and review processes
- Understanding of how to monitor and track achievement using data
- Experience of implementing intervention strategies to raise achievement
- Experience of Child Protection issues/procedures (or willingness to become DCPC)
