COURSE AIMS

The course will introduce the student to the aspects and methods of contemporary history, with special emphasis on the historical dynamics of globalization and on Italy in the 20th and 21st centuries.

General Part

1.“Contemporaneity” in history.

2.Pre-globalization.

3.Globalization in the modern age.

4.Globalization in the 19th century.

5.Globalization in the 20th century.

6.The multi-polar world.

7.Religions among dialogue and conflict.

Special Subject Part

The history of Italy in the 20th and 21st centuries.

READING LIST

G. Sabbatucci-C. Vidotto, Il mondo contemporaneo. Dal 1848 a oggi, Laterza, Rome-Bari, 2008 or any other edition (only from 1870 onwards).

3.A. Giovagnoli, Storia e globalizzazione, Laterza, Rome-Bari, 2009 or any other edition.

4.A. Giovagnoli, La repubblica degli italiani,forthcoming.

5.The student should then choose one of the books on the list provided successively by the lecturer.

Non-attending students must choose and bring an additional book from the above list.
