2010 Calls for Kids Telecast
WHAT: The Calls for Kids Telecast raises funds for the programs of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Nashville, including the Ronald McDonald House and Ronald McDonald Family Room. With an annual operating budget of more than $1,000,000, the funds raised each year through the Telecast are vital to RMHC of Nashville.
The Calls for Kids Telecast is our best and biggest opportunity to highlight our programs, the families who utilize our programs, and the companies and organizations who fund our programs each year. During the three-hour live event, production is divided among the phone bank where volunteers, prominent community leaders and local celebrities field phone calls from donors, live and taped interviews with families, live and taped interviews with donors, and video segments that give viewers a closer look at our House, Family Room, the pull tab program, and our unique quilt program.
Each year we seek “Minute-Match” Sponsors who provide $1,000-$25,000 to match one to 25 minutes of the Telecast, donations of incentive prizes that callers receive for making donations at various levels, local personalities and celebrities to sit on the phone bank, and volunteers to assist in fundraising and planning. Phones ring twice as much during the segments of our Telecast when a company is matching callers’ gifts.

WHY: To support the ongoing services provided by RMHC of Nashville, specifically, the 32-bedroom Ronald McDonald House and the Ronald McDonald Family Room located on the 5th Floor of the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. These two programs “keep families close” by providing essential resources and a home away from home for families of critically ill children receiving inpatient or outpatient medical care at Nashville area hospitals. More than 10,700 families have benefited from the Nashville Ronald McDonald House and more than 150,000 individuals have visited our Family Room at the Children’s Hospital.
In 2009, the Calls for Kids Telecast raised more than $115,000 for the programs of RMHC.
