ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC!

The ultimate guide to Oriel High School’s music.

Oriel High School has a really cool and fun Music department, full of all sorts of instruments and technology. There are many after school clubs available to come to as well, each one packed with the joy and fun music can bring to your life! The teachers are cool as well and life can be fun overall. Here are comments from staff member, Ann Dudding.

“I first started completing and organising after school clubs in 2001, where the first ever Pop Choir began. I helped many children find confidence in the school and in music.” The school does many different extra-curricular clubs as well, including Pop Choir, Ukulele club, Samba band and Vocal group. The clubs are filled up with students from Oriel that wish to learn and preform this kind of music. “I first started after school music clubs,” said Ann Dudding “because it was something I loved to do. It was a thing I had always thought was a good idea, so I was very pleased when the head-of-music Stephanie Holt asked me to start a club all about music.” Rebecca, a student who is part of Pop Choir said “I go to Pop choir to have fun and also calm down. Pop choir never puts me down, and I use it as a way to stay away from home as well.”

Oriel does not only cover singing, it covers musical instruments as well! Oriel covers guitar, drums, ukulele, and syllabus. This allows students to sit back and enjoy a large variety of music, not only in voice, but through passion. Piano is also taught through a variety of different classes as well. There will always be music within Oriel. “I really enjoy teaching,” stated Ann, “because I learn something new every single day. There is never a day I don’t like at Oriel’s music department!”

The Pop choir is also covering a large area of concerts as well. So far this year, the small choir have sung in three concerts all over the place. They have performed at Gatwick Airport, in the Maidenbower Community Centre and preformed a Christmas Concert at their own school. There are many up-coming events as well, such as Choiroke and the spring and summer concerts at the school. They will also be preforming at the Hawth in June, which they are all very excited for! Their songs include, Chasing Cars, Next To Me, Happy, I Believe and Let It Go. They have also sung many Christmas Carols and practiced the 2014 Pop Medley, a mix of seven popular songs.

Today on Thursday 19th March, the whole school is pitching together to create a concert that no one will forget in a long time. Today Oriel is preforming the Spring Showcase at their school. The school is now getting ready to pull off a show of dancing, music and fun. The school is preforming today, later this evening. There is an audio piece for you to listen too in this page, giving you a prevue on the talent that will light the school tonight.
