NRCS Update (Kelly)Fiscal year 2017 roll out meeting is tomorrow, Kelly will be away all next week for training in Arkansas, only about 1 week left of construction on projects, there will be an intern here this summer (part of the Pathways Program), had a promising easement visit on a property in Shelburne today.

OLD BUSINESS:

  1. Native Plant Nursery –
  2. (Summer 2016) Complete installation of site access road. Complete installation of tiles for site irrigation system.
  3. (Fall 2016) Purchase and spread lime & fertilizer and cover crop (Oats)
  4. (Summer 2017) Purchase and installation of deer fence & posts

NEW BUSINESS:

  1. 2017 BudgetWork Session was held on November 2nd. The only change in CCCD’s budget is an addition of a 2 person health plan through the county.
  2. NHACD Annual Meeting– Hosted by Sullivan County Conservation District in Claremont, NH. Keynote speaker, Steve Groff, talked about cover crop strategies and how to make them pay. He has a website and a Facebook page with some good information – or search for Cover Crop Coaching on Facebook.
  3. North Country Food System Meeting(hosted by the NH Food Alliance) – Identified needs of the agricultural community in the North Country (Coos, Grafton, Carroll). They are having aSecond Annual Statewide Gathering on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at the Mountain View Grand Resort in Whitefield, NH. This year's Statewide Gathering will focus on building momentum around the Viability Initiative.
  1. Neil and Louise Tillotson Fund (wood ash spreader grant) –
  2. Wood ash spreader has been ordered and paid for. Bliss Farm expects it to be ready the first week of April. They honored their quote from last year.
  3. Set a price for the rental
  4. Come up with renting / return procedure (what to go over / check)
  5. Look over the rental agreement

Possibly have Bliss Farm come and do a demo with the spreader and explain functions and other details about spreader.

Give questionnaire to lessee after use of spreader to determine how many acres were covered and amount of woodash spread.

Rental Rate: $100 per day or $500 per week and a $250 Maintenance Deposit (1/2 price if renting off season, mid-May – August)

Proof of insurance is required with a minimum general liability of $300,000 per occurrence. Ask Commissioner Samson if county attorney can look over rental agreement for correct wording and proper coverage.

  1. North Country Fruit and Vegetable Seminar & Tradeshow – Talked with many producers from the area. Heather Bryant mentioned our tool rental program after a weed management presentation. Met Scott Burns from Whitefield and he is on board if we can get Johnny’s to come in the spring for a demonstration of the manual mulch layer.
  1. Spring Bulb Sale – Including raspberries, blueberries, and fruit trees? Which ones?

Steve will look at varieties and give some suggestions.

  1. Cover Crop Workshop – Brandon Smith, Chad Cochrane, DaimonMeeh (NRCS Soil Health Division), Steve Turaj – Local history of cover crops, Kelly Eggleston – Program Opportunities
  2. Does December 15th work for everyone? Thursday, December 15th
  3. Day or evening workshop?11am – 2pm (with refreshments – Kris making doughnuts, Sarah making chili)
  4. NH Farmer using no-till / cover crop system (Nate Tullar or producers who were part of the Aerial Seeding?)
  5. NHACD Dues - $500 due by January 15th

Send Linda a note about how we want to support NHACD and are working on projects to make more revenue but we currently cannot support with that much money.

  1. LIS RCPP – Final Budget and Deliverables were sent in to be approved. Next step is to work on the hiring process. We’re receiving a job description from a similar position at NRCS.
