(February, 2015)

Summary of Qualitative Data

  • Well done! Thank you for the fantastic learning opportunity. Will definitely apply it (BCP) on a daily basis.
  • I think this programme should be made compulsory for all the educators from Grade R and up.
  • Thank you for a very informative course. I have learnt a huge amount and have plans to implement this (approach) into my teaching …
  • My concern about my learners’ language barriers and how to overcome (these barriers) hasbeen solved for me.
  • As a 1st year teacher I feel (that had) this course been presented to us at the beginning of the yearI would have been more effective in my teaching.
  • Thank you for introducing me to this "life skill". It is wonderful that thereis also an online, interactive, support system with resources available. Good luck with all the great work you are doing.
  • The BCP enhances thinking skills and builds confidence. It also expands vocabulary.
  • I like the steps of basic concepts teaching model… they are like a daily routine in my head …ensuring that you are always on the right path.
  • I now understand how important it is to use the correct basic conceptsterminology and not to spoon feed children… it allows them to become critical thinkers.
  • It was fantastic to have a balance between the theoretical and the practical aspects. Inviting children to come to show demonstrations helped me understand a lot better.
  • This is an excellent workshop… it helpsme to cope with my daily tasks... The information given was excellent.
  • The BCP approach…is the ability to ask questions and guide your learners’ thinking via your mediation. I have learnt how to stimulate and encourage talk inside my classrooms. This programme helped me to make sense of CAPS and will also help to lighten the load on delivery.
  • Excellent - I fed off your positive attitude and you kept me alert and ready to absorb all you had to offer. Thank you.
  • The programme… gives children the opportunity to develop independent thought and gives them confidence to try new ideas – to be creative.
  • I feel very strongly that basic concepts should be introduced to all learners at the beginning of the year… this will give me the time to develop their conceptual language and increase their vocabulary and verbal fluency… especially for multilingual learners. This will help me enormously. Thank you.
