Cross-Curricular Elements: English
Further Learning Opportunities:
Timing / Teaching and LearningCreating a Safe Environment: Establishing the rules / 10 minutes /
Establish classroom rules for discussion activities as democratically as reasonably possible (pupils always respect rules and regulations if they have a part in deciding them). These are negotiable but respectful language; giving people space and time to speak; respecting each other’s confidentiality and the confidentiality of third parties such as friends and relatives must be among them.
The rules should be observable to the whole class throughout the lesson.
Avoid negative terminology e.g. Say/write: “Be respectful of others’ views” rather than: “Don’t be disrespectful of others’ views”.

Homework: / Extend: Introduce analysis of structure of the poem.
●Create a template picture of Vincent which the children can put a dressing up outfit on using materials to create a collage.
●Have a “Dressing up with Vincent Day”. Children can dress in their favourite dressing up outfit.
Begin the Learning - Starter: / 5 mins / This lesson should be delivered in a “Story Time” setting.
The aim is for “Vincent” to be a part of the class. Introduce Vincent as a new class member. Let the children take turns holding him.
Continue the Learning - Activities: / Tell the story, during which the children can help Vincent to dress up by taking items out of the bag and putting them on Vincent.
Please note that there will be pauses in the story telling for group activity. This will make it a more memorable lesson as various learning styles are embedded into the structure of the delivery.
As the story unfolds, this will be reversed as each child, in turn, will remove an item. However, when the item is removed, each child should hold it and look after it for Vincent.
