Post: Pupil Interventionand Isolation Unit Supervisor

Details:With specific regard to the pupils in their care and with responsibility to report toAssistant Headteacher–Behaviour and Attendance.

Grade: Single Status

Key Accountabilities:

  1. To supervise the Isolation Unit from 8.00 to 3.30 each day.
  2. To attend the 3.30-4.00 pastoral team meeting each day.
  3. Lead the management of the Isolation Unit as directed by the Assistant Headteacher – Behaviour and Attendance, with the support of SLT and other senior staff.
  4. To ensure consistency of climate and expectations in the Isolation Unit.
  5. To ensure the quality of display materials and the overall presentation of the Isolation Unit.
  6. To ensure quality work provision and progress of students who are isolated or on alternative day arrangements.
  7. Managing the record keeping and student work within the Isolation Unit and using it to support identification of pupil needs in relation to behaviour, learning and progress.
  8. Maintaining and updating behaviour, achievement and SEN logs on students’ SIMS records.
  9. Running intervention support programmes such as emotional literacy and anger management.
  10. Develop and implement new intervention programmes to promote positive behaviour and engagement in pupils based on the principles of restorative justice.
  11. Support SLT and theStudent Inclusion and SupportManager with planning and implementation of programmes led by external agencies.
  12. To contribute to and support the writing of referrals to external agencies.
  13. To key work and support targeted students who are at wave 3-5 of the behaviour structure as directed by SLT and the Student Inclusion and Support Manager.
  14. To provide or identify behaviour and reintegration support in lessons as identified on timetable of students returning from exclusions, extended periods of isolation or alternative day arrangements.
  15. Monitoring re-integration back into lessons after exclusions or return from extended periods of isolation or alternative day arrangements.
  16. To uphold the behaviour policy and ensure consistency of its application.
  17. To liaise with year teamsabout the needs and progress of students in their year groups.
  18. To contribute to the school’s duty rota as necessary.
  19. To take a 30 minute lunch break at a convenient time during lesson 4.
  20. Participation in parental meetings, return from exclusion meetings and meetings with external agencies as required.
  21. Attend Behaviour Panel meetings.
  22. Meet with BESST (Behaviour, Emotional and Social Support Team) as required to review the needs of students and the school.
  23. To be part of the Pastoral and Behaviour team INSET programmes.
  24. To prepare exclusion logs, reports for outside agencies and case studies.
  25. Complete additional duties pertaining to the role as directed by the Assistant Headteacher – Behaviour and Attendance.

Education &
Qualifications / GCSE or equivalent in English Language and Maths / Application Form
Knowledge / Knowledge of the National Curriculum and an understanding of the entitlement for all children
Knowledge and understanding of the SEN Code of Practice
An understanding of the principles of child development and learning processes and in particular, barriers to learning
Knowledge of strategies to recognise and reward efforts and achievements towards self-reliance that are appropriate to the age and development stage of the students.
Awareness o the organisational requirements for maintaining the health, safety and security of yourself and others in the learning environment. / Interview
Experience / Experience of establishing positive relationships with children
Experience of working with, and supporting, pupils with learning, social, emotional and behaviour needs
Experience of adapting/preparing appropriate resources for children with individual needs
Experience of working with children with language communication difficulties
Experience of using Information Technology to support students in the classroom and Head of House with administration.
