Demonstrate knowledge of the New Zealand Cadet Forces

PurposeThis unit standard is intended for people who are members of the New Zealand Cadet Forces. People credited with this unit standard are able to describe: the NZCF organisation; the history of the NZCF; NZCF activities; methods used to acknowledge achievement in the corps of the NZCF; and the NZCF Code of Behaviour.

2Definitions

ATC is the Air Training Corps of NZCF;

NZA is the New Zealand Army;

NZCC is the New Zealand Cadet Corps of NZCF;

NZCF is the New Zealand Cadet Forces;

RNZN is the Royal New Zealand Navy;

RNZAF is the Royal New Zealand Air Force;

SCC is the Sea Cadet Corps of NZCF.

Elements and performance criteria

Element 1

Describe the NZCF organisation.

Performance criteria

1.1The description identifies the structure and role of NZCF Headquarters and area offices.

1.2The description identifies the personnel and their responsibilities at NZCF Headquarters and area offices.

1.3The description identifies the badges of rank of one Corps of the NZCF.

Element 2

Describe the history of the NZCF.

Performance criteria

2.1The description identifies major events in the history of the NZCF.

Rangeminimum of six events that must include – origin of the NZCF, World War One, World War Two, consequences of the 1990 Defence Act.

2.2The description identifies major events in the history of a selected Corps.

Rangeone of SCC, NZCC, ATC;

minimum of six events that must include origin of the Corps.

2.3The description identifies major events in the history of the home cadet unit.

Rangeone of SCC, NZCC, ATC;

minimum of six events that must include – origin of the unit, personnel, regional/national achievements (if any).

Element 3

Describe NZCF activities.

Performance criteria

3.1The description identifies authorised activities of the NZCF.

Rangejunior, senior, advanced, outdoor, sail charge;

evidence of three is required.

3.2The description identifies three recognised activities of the NZCF.

Element 4

Describe the methods used to acknowledge achievement in the corps of the NZCF.

Rangeone of SCC, NZCC, ATC.

Performance criteria

4.1The description identifies the awards and the conditions required to achieve them.

RangeCorp’s certificates, Commandant’s certificate, medals.

4.2The description identifies the badges of skill and the methods used to achieve them.

Element 5

Describe the NZCF Code of Behaviour.

Performance criteria

5.1The description identifies eight acceptable behaviours in accordance with the Code of Behaviour.

5.2The description identifies the values encouraged in the NZCF in accordance with the Code of Behaviour.

5.3The description identifies the disciplinary procedures as set out in the NZCF Code of Behaviour.

Rangetypes of approved discipline, approved methods of applying disciplinary measures.

Please note

Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.

Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.

Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.

Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP). The AMAP also includes useful information about special requirements for organisations wishing to develop education and training programmes, such as minimum qualifications for tutors and assessors, and special resource requirements.
