Role of the Coach, Player, and Parent

In an attempt to improve communication between players, parents and the coaching staff, the following information will be implementedfor the benefit of all parties.

Role of Coaches

1. To listen, encourage, and guide the program towards team and individual success.

2. Promote a program built on class and provide a trusting family atmosphere

3. Inspire players to reach potential

4. To be on time

5. Treat players and staff with respect

6. Assist/guide players with their post-secondary endeavors

7. Heritage Basketball is not solely about basketball, but teaching essential life skills that will be vitalto functioning in the real world.

8. To teach players that they can work hard and have fun simultaneously

Role of Player

2. Follow the Expectations at all times to ensure building a championship program with class

4. Be coachable

5. Be accountable for your actions on and off the court

Parent Conferences: During the season, you may feel the need to address and discuss specific issues regarding your daughter. We will be glad to meet with you to discuss the situation, but we ask you to observe the following protocol.

1. We will only meet with you to discuss your concerns at school. You may call or email to arrange a meeting, but we will not discuss anything about your daughter’s situation until we meet at school.

2. We will never discuss your daughter’s situation or make an appointment to do so either before or after a game.

3. We will not play the comparison game with you. If you are unhappy about your daughter’s playing time, we will discuss that with you, but we will not, nor will we let you, compare her time to others on the team.

4. At times, we must agree to disagree.

Practices

It is the expectation that every player is present at all practices and team activities. If players miss practice, it will result in loss of playing time. It is essential that all players are at every practice in order to reach our maximum potential as a team. If a player is not present for practice the day before a game, they will not play in that game.

In the Stands

1. It is the coaching staff’s responsibility to teach your daughter to play the game. Often as a parent, your focus is on your and only your daughter, while the coach has to focus on the needs of the entire team/program.

2. Consequently, we would like you to let us do our job, and to refrain from coaching your daughter from the stands. If a player is forced to choose between following the directions of her coach, or a parent, she will often be frustrated and confused, causing her not to play to her potential.

3. Therefore, if we hear you coaching from the stands, we will remove your daughter from the game.

4. Our parents will be looked upon as respectful fans who support the Heritage basketball program in a positive way.

Placement on Teams

1. Based on many factors, including skill level, work ethic, attitude, etc.

2. Players are placed on teams that the coaches believe will get the most court time and comparable skill level.

3. Placement on teams are fluid and not set in stone. A player can move either up or down based on their progress, coachability, work ethic, and attitude.

4. If behavior and/or attitude becomea negative distraction to the teams or other players, there will be consequences, such as decreased playing time, missing a game(s), placement on another team, or a player may be asked to leave the program altogether based on the coaches discretion.
