WONDERING HOW THE WHOLE INSTRUMENT THING WORKS?

Students carry their own instrument to and from home.
These instruments are all leased from Ward Brodt

FRENCH HORN AND BARITONE
Due to the size of these instruments, french horns and baritones are also stored at school so children only have to carry a mouthpiece back and forth for home and school practice.
FOR HOME: If you have the financial resources available to lease from Ward Brodt, we highly recommend you take advantage of the quality and maintenance you receive from their lease program. The school does own a limited supply of these “expensive to rent” instruments. However, the French Horns and Baritones we have are functional, but NEITHER NEW NOR BEAUTIFUL.
In the event we have more players interested than instruments available, we will have to resort to a lottery. I will contact French horn or Baritone players directly if we find ourselves in this situation.
TUBA
Due to the size of these instruments, tubas are stored at school so children only have to carry a mouthpiece back and forth for home and school practice.
FOR HOME:All tubas must be rented though the school. Ward Brodt does not rent tubas.
In the event we have more players interested than instruments available, we will have to resort to a lottery. I will contact tuba players directly if we find ourselves in this situation.
PERCUSSION
Students will use the mallet instruments and drums stored at school.
FOR HOME: All percussionists need a bell set AND a snare drum (or reasonable facsimile of a snare drum; ie.: practice pad, mini-snare; snare drum in a drum set) to practice at home. Ward Brodt leases or sells percussion kits which include all these instruments, sticks and mallets.
We also have a limited supply of functional bell kits to lease from the school. Percussionists will begin on bells during the first year, but will have a need for a bell set all three years of middle school band.
In addition, we have a limited number of school flutes, oboes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets and trombones available for families using the free and reduced lunch services of the Mount Horeb Area School District. If you have extenuating circumstances that would prohibit your child from participating, you can also make a request for any available instrument.
