PLEASE HELP PREVENT WATER WASTE

On March 19, 2015,our community water distribution system was checked for leaks using a leak detection method called “sounding”. All of the curb shut-off valves at each home site and all main line shut-off valves were tested. No water line leaks were found.

Unfortunately, our water usage has remained unusually high. Usage for January through March 26thof 2015 was:

January - Total gallons used was 685,000 - a daily average of 22,096 used.

February - Total gallons used was 641,000 - a daily average of 22,892 used.

March - Total gallons used was 595,000 - a daily average of 22,884 used.

Based on previous usage numbers, our monthly water consumption was 540,000 gallons per month with a daily average of 18,000 gallons. As a community, we are using an average of 4,500 gallons of water PER DAY more than usual! This will undoubtedly be a much higher number during the summer months. We suspect that there may be water leaks inside some of the homes in Rock Lake. Since a large portion of your monthly dues pays for your water, maintenance is asking all homeowners to routinely check for leaks at the following locations:

Faucets – Please check all faucets for drips and under sinks and vanities for leaking valves. Repair as needed.

Toilets – A simple test can be performed on your toilet. Wait at least 10 minutes after flushing the toilet. Place 6-8 drops of food coloring (a dark color such as blue or red) in the toilet tank (not the bowl). Wait at least a half hourand then check to see if the water in the toilet bowlhas become tinted with the foodcoloring dye from the tank. If so, the flush valve, fill valve or “flapper” is leaking! These problems are relatively inexpensive to fix and can save us all a lot of money. Please repair immediately.

Hot Water Tanks – Most water heaters are located in closets or compartments. An undetected leaking hot water tank wastes a LOT of water and also causesMAJORsubfloor damage. Detecting and repairing a water tank leak early will save money!

Crawl Spaces – Please routinely check under your home for any signs of water leaks. If you need help checking any of the above areas, please contact maintenance for assistance.

Thank you,
