HOLY FAMILY YOUTH MISSION TRIPS
2017-18 Mission Trip Expectations
Behavior: We expect any student who turns in a registration for the 2018 youth summer mission trips to agree to hold himself/herself responsible for his/her behavior. As a youth missionary, you represent Holy Family and the greater Church. We will expect your attitudes, actions, and words to reflect the Gospel message. This means that your attitude, dress, and behavior will be appropriate, kind, and respectful toward each person, both at meetings and in your life.
Meetings: The meetings are important in our preparation and are therefore a requirement of all participants. We understand that your time is precious, but it is important that each student is prepared to encounter Christ and be Christ on the mission. If there is some kind of emergency, and you are unable to make a meeting, please call Amanda Pohle at 262-894-3541 orvia our parish office at 920-921-0580 ext.131. Inability to comply may result in the loss of your spot on the trip to someone on the waiting list.
Fundraising: In an effort to keep the cost of the trip affordable for everyone, we rely heavily on the participation of all families in our fundraising efforts. To reinforce this, there will be a financial penalty for not participating. We will have three mandatory fundraisers this year and three additional fundraisers where you can select three out of the four to participate in.
Mandatory fundraisers include:
Stock Sale:We will provide you with a template letter. This letter will describe how you are preparing to be a missionary on a mission trip and are seeking support either in prayer or financially. This helps to evangelize about how you are reaching out to others in Christ while at the same time asking others to join you and be a part of the experience. Each missionary is expected to send out 25 letters.
Pizza Sale: We sell, make, and deliver delicious homemade pizzas. Each missionary is expected to sell at least 40 pizzas. A parent/adult and the missionary are expected to be present to help on the day of pizza making. There are no exceptions and no excuses will be given. This day is only successful with everyone’s help.
Optional fundraisers include:
Christmas Sign Sale: We will sell the “Keep Christ in Christmas” Yard Signs and Window Clings after Mass at Holy Family.
Pizza Mass Sales: We will sell extra pizzas after Mass at all locations at set times.
Cross and Rosary Sale:We will sell crosses, rosaries, and other religious objects for individuals preparing for First Communion and Confirmation at Holy Family.
Flower/Muffin Sale: We will sell flowers/muffins at all locations.
*Remember that each missionary is expected to participate in three of the four fundraisers listed above.

Homemade Pizza Sale
Dear Mission Trip Participant,
Please take the time to carefully read all of the details in this letter.
SELLING PIZZAS FOR THE 2018 MISSION TRIPS
Full participation makes this fundraiser very successful! ALL participants on the youth mission trips are expected to sell at least 40 pizzas. A family with more than one youth going on the trip must sell 10 pizzas for every extra child. Anyone who doesn’t sell the minimum of 40 will need to pay the balance using the following formula: $7.50 x (40 minus the number of pizzas sold).
Incentives: For every pizza you sell over the required 40, you will earn $2 per pizza you sell. This money will be used to pay for your trip. *Actual earnings may vary due to price increases.
Ex. 100 pizzas = $120 off trip; 200 pizzas = $320 off trip.
CUSTOMERS SHOULD PAY WHEN YOU TAKE THEIR ORDER. Please make out ONE check to Holy Family and your customers can pay you. All orders and a check MUST be turned in by or at our meeting January 14 in the Holy Family Hall after the 10:15 am Mass. Please put all orders and check into an envelope during transport.
MARKETING TIPS
Tell your customers that these are homemade, fresh pizzas.
Remind customers that they might enjoy pizza while watching the Super Bowl.
Thank them for supporting our mission trip.
Potential customers can be family, friends, neighbors, relatives, teammates, and co-workers.
PIZZA MAKING
On Saturday, Feb. 3, we will make pizzas! It will be intense, but FUN!
Youth and a parent will be required to work from 8:00am – 2:00pm. ALL mission trip participants and one adult per student must help with the pizza making. If you are unable to work your shift, you MUST find a family member or someone else to work for you. (If a parent is unable to work that day, he or she will need to find an ADULT to work as his or her substitute.) Extra family members (if old enough) and friends are welcome to help.
DELIVERY
YOU are responsible for making sure your customers get their pizzas. Please plan accordingly, as you will be bringing all the pizzas you ordered to your house on February 3 and deliver them to your customers. Make sure you have enough room in your refrigerator at home and deliver them PROMPTLY.
Stock Sale
Dear Missionary,
This fundraiser is not optional. You are expected to send 25 letters to help with the price of this trip. We will help in any way that we can to help this fundraiser be successful. Please read the following information to make the most of this fundraiser.
WHY A STOCK SALE
- This is an effort to raise finances and prayer support for each of the missionaries.
- This will help extend each missionary’s evangelizing witness to a greater community.
- This is a great way to help diminish your cost of $700 per trip. (middle school $500)
If you have a big family and lots of friends, this would also be a great way to raise money for other people who would like to go or are going who need to be sponsored financially.
WHAT TO DO
- This fundraiser will only be successful if everyone sends out his or her required 25 letters. The more you send, the more money you are likely to raise!
- We are requiring that you send out at least 25 letters.
- Each letter will require postage and your personal touch. Making it personal will help people to see that this is important to you, and they will be more likely to contribute either financially or through prayer.
- Please don’t hesitate to send this out to relatives and friends, especially those who are not in the Fond du Lac area.
FOLLOW UP
- You will be required to send a thank you letter to each person who helps with your trip.
- We will track each person’s finances at Holy Family and notify you about your progress.
- We will give you a printout of who contributed so that you can send a timely thank you letter.
- We may choose to send out a stock certificate to each of the stockholders as well.
- We will have a stockholders’ gathering or dinner after the trip in August to thank the stockholders, tell them about the trip, and show them pictures.
FINAL DEADLINE
This fundraiser has no deadline. You may continue to write letters and receive donations of any kind up until the mission trip.
LETTER SAMPLE FOR STOCK SALE (comments in parenthesis)
December 1, 2017
Dear Uncle Larry, (Make this personal)
I am writing you today to tell you about a great opportunity that I have to serve this summer on a Mission Trip to ______.
(Please share why you want to go on the trip and what you hope to gain)
Example: I am so excited to go on this mission trip because I am looking forward to living out my faith. We will be helping repair people’s homes for individuals who may not be able to physically. We will also support them with the supplies they desperately need.
As a part of this trip, I think I will really be able to understand what it is to serve. I also will be able to take that experience to be a servant leader at home and in my community. We hope to be God’s hands to those we serve, and to do as Jesus did, washing the feet of others!
(Please share what they can do to help support you)
Example: The reason for this letter is to invite you to support my trip through prayer and/or financial donations. The Mission team at Holy Family is raising finances through various fundraisers. This letter is a new effort called a Stock sale. Each Mission team member is sending out letters to ask you to be a stockholder in our trip. We need your support either with prayer and/or with finances.
Please prayerfully consider buying shares to our trip at $20 per share. If finances are tough right now, please still commit to praying for us as we prepare to travel and serve in God’s name.
If you choose to help in either way or both, you will receive updates and an invitation to our stockholders’ meeting after the trip!
(This should be included in each letter)
Please take some time to fill out and return the enclosed form byFebruary 28th(give them an appropriate amount of time). Contributions are tax deductible. Contributions can also be counted towards this year’s deductions or next year’s.
Gratefully,
