Introduction

This unit is about understanding staffing resource requirements and the recruitment and selection process, including induction and reviewing procedures.

Scenario

Learners may use their own employment context, or that of another organisation with which they are very familiar, to base their assignment. However, in the case that they are not able to do so, please use the below scenario: -

You have been asked to take part in a recruitment and selection process to recruit a member of staff within your area of responsibility and be responsible for the planning and induction activities that relate to the post.

Task 1:

Construct a supported case for additional staff resource using your organisational approach which should include the analysis of the staff resource to meet current and future objectives.

Select a job role within your area of responsibility and develop a job description and person specification for this role.

Task 2:

Discuss the principles of fairness, objectivity and equality in recruitment and selection and summarise the key statutory responsibilities (resulting from current legal instruments) placed on managers to achieve this.

Describe the differing procedures and processes used by organisations in recruitment and selection and identify the reasons for a particular approach linked to organisational requirements, norms and culture.
