Steve Aylward is Microsoft’s General Manager for CommercialHealth & Life Sciences (HLS).Stevejoined Microsoft in 2006 after a thirteen year career at Siemens Medical Solutions (SMS) where he was the Vice President and National Sales Director responsible for Revenue Cycle Solutions.
At Microsoft, Steve is responsible for strategy, alliances, marketing, and sales execution for a $1.2 billion business that includes approximately 500 customers and partners spanning healthcare providers, health plans, and life sciences organizations in the U.S. His efforts are part of Microsoft’s continued and growing commitment to enabling the healthcare industry to realize its potential for improved productivity, quality, and safety through proven technology innovation and administrative simplification.
At Siemens, hegained an in-depth knowledge of the need for providers, health plans, and other healthcare parties to collaborate and connect for better health outcomes through his five years as National Sales Director for Healthcare Data Exchange (HDX), a subsidiary of Siemens Medical Solutions. His experience there dovetailed with many of the key business issues currently facing healthcare today: clinician connectivity, administrative simplification, the need for the adoption of electronic health records, and the drive toward consumers owning more of their healthcare information. The adoption and use of technology will certainly play a prominent role in the evolving strategies that the industry, the government, and the marketplace implement to address these important topics through healthcare reform.
Prior to Siemens, Steve wasemployed as amanagement consultant focused on business process re-engineering in healthcare, insurance, and banking with the firm of A.T. Hudson & Co. The common threadto each engagement was its relationship to the implementation of technology solutions that reduced operational cost, improved service or enhanced access to critical data. Hisextensive experience within IT, healthcare and general businessprovide an excellentbackground for his current role at Microsoft.
Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and grew up in Mountain View, California.He is a member of various trade associations including the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS), and American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). Steve represents Microsoft as a member of the Advisory Panel for the Advanced Cyber Security Center - a cross sector collaborative based in the Boston area. His community service activity includesserving on the Board of Directors for NPower PA, a charitable organization that provides technology services to not-for-profit organizations in the Philadelphia area; TheBoard of Directors for the Southeastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Red Cross; as well as The Development Committee of the Paoli Hospital Foundation- a member of the MainLine Health System.
From a personal perspective, Steve and his wife are residents of Malvern, PA and have two daughters; the oldest isa college sophomore, their youngest is a college freshman. He is a lifetime member of the UCLA Alumni Association and actively supports the university’s education and athletic programs through the Chancellor’s Circle Program.
