Second Presbyterian Church
3511 Belmont Blvd. 615-292-3343
Nashville, TN 37215
Second Presbyterian Church, a dynamic, progressive community of faith serving neighborhoods all over Nashville, is seeking a person to lead our children who is both passionate, energetic and lighthearted about Christian education for children of all ages. This person will be in charge of our Peaceable Kingdom Sunday program for kindergarten through 6th graders, housed in a delightfully creative and thoughtfully designed space, assisted by strong volunteers and using an adapted rotation model curriculum. The Director will also be in charge of Nursery, Pre-Kindergarten and Pre-school and coordinate the planning and execution of weekly children’s sermons and Godly Play during children’s worship. Our program includes various special events throughout the year including an Advent Family Workshop, children’s Christmas pageant, family Christmas Eve service and Easter egg hunt.
We are blessed with a strong Children’s Ministry Committee led by a member of the Session and devoted to walking alongside the Director to assist and lead in many ways.
Additional areas of responsibility include:
- Coordinating fellowship evenings for fifth through seventh graders in homes
- Planning and producing regular electronic newsletters
- Coordinating occasional summer enrichment activities
- Planning and executing “Genesis Sunday,” our back-to-school Sunday in September when we welcome children for a new year and seek volunteers for children’s ministry
- Planning and running a children’s program for the annual all-church fall retreat
- Planning and leading family Christmas Eve service
- Planning and facilitating informal smaller family groups at various times during the year to encourage community building and to foster inter-generational relationships
- Helping parents learn spiritual formation practices and encouraging them to be spiritual mentors for their children
Qualities desired:
A deep interest in the spiritual development of children honed in a church environment with leadership experience, along with a faith life marked by curiosity, creativity and willingness to keep learning about the spiritual formation of families and children of all ages. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, with desire for M.Div. or equivalent, as our congregation tends to be theologically open and educated. Familiarity with PC(USA) or similar theological values (United Methodist, Disciples of Christ, Episcopalian) is also needed.
