If you have

5 GCSE passes and a minimum of a B grade in Religious Studies and English Language.

You can

enrol on the AS or A Level course in Religious Studies.

This will mean

at the end of this study candidates will have gained an increasingly popular and nationally recognised qualification that is especially well respected by all universities. The course develops the following skills:

Essay Writing:expressing yourself clearly and formulating convincing lines of argument

Debating: expressing an argument persuasively and listening to the arguments of others

Researching: seeking details surrounding ethical issues and the views of philosophers

Presenting: communicating topics researched to the class

Analysis: weighing up the strengths of arguments and considering issues from many angles

This course will appeal to any student who

is interested in exploring questions about the existence of God and how we know the difference between right and wrong.

You will

in Year 12—(H172) - Study two units of assessment which may be awarded as a discrete AS qualification or may be the first half of a full A level qualification.

in Year 13—A2 (H572) - Study two further units of assessment, which taken together with the three AS units leads to a full A level qualification.

Plato and Aristotle; Concepts of God; Arguments for the existence of God and criticisms of these; Challenges to religious belief, including the problem of evil and science

G572 – Religious Ethics

Types of ethical theories; Natural Law; Kantian Ethics; Utilitarianism; Religious Ethics; Applied Ethics: Abortion and the right to a child; Euthanasia; Genetic engineering; War and peace

AS Assessment:

Written exams : Philosophy of Religion (1½ hours).

Religious Ethics (1½ hours).

in Year 13—A2 (H572)

G581 – Philosophy of Religion

Religious Language; Religious Experience; Attributes of God; Life, Death and the Soul

G582 – Religious Ethics

Meta-Ethics; Free will and determinism; the nature and role of conscience; Applied Ethics -including environmental, business and sexual ethics

A2 Assessment:

Written exams : Philosophy of Religion (1½ hours).

Religious Ethics (1½ hours).

With this subject you could
