Dear Parent/Guardian and Student,
It is a pleasure to have your child/you in my class this semester, I am looking forward to a great semester. World History is a required course for graduation and is part of the Common Core-Essential Standards initiated by NCDPI. This is a general survey course that will include the most important events of history beginning with Ancient Civilizations through the Middle Ages and Renaissance as well as the Age of Exploration and Revolution right on up to modern era of the Industrial Revolution and into both World Wars of the 1900s, the Cold War Era and beyond.
* Here are some things you need to know: (procedures and materials)
1. BE ON TIME!! Enter class on time and take a seat before the bell rings!
2. Always bring your textbook and materials to class unless otherwise notified (be prepared)
3. Raise your hand if you have a question or need assistance.
4. Missed Assignments: will be due the third day following an absence, failure to turn in make up work
after that time results in a zero and no credit given. Differentiating circumstances often occur concerning
absences so make sure you speak to Mr. Jones. Not my responsibility to track you down!!
5. You are responsible for taking notes when given and being organized, that is a key to success in class
6. What if I finish my work early, start on your homework/unfinished assignments/and so on.
7. Get involved in class discussion, ask questions and volunteer. (NO HEADS ON DESKS)
* Materials Needed For Class:
pen (blue or black preferred)-- No2 pencil--highlighter
notebook for paper and notes
three ring binder: (fill in notes are used—need to save and keep for quizzes/test)
1 box of colored pencils and or box of magic markers
* Classroom Rules and Procedures:
discipline: students are governed by the GCHS handbook policies
1. Be in class and in your seat when the bell rings
2. Bring all class materials everyday
3. No eating or drinking in class
4. No cell phones/I-Pods/or other electronic devices (will be confiscated) no purses on desk (ladies)!!
5. RESPECT your teacher, classmates and school property!!
* If You Choose To Break A Rule:
1. As per the GCHS handbook policies* verbal warning and or one on one
* one on one and or call to parents or administration
* Grades will be based on the following:* three strikes/severe disruptions -written referral
40% - test/exam
30% - class work/homework/participation
15% - quizzes
15% - projects
100 – total* The final exam will be worth 25% of the total grade:
