Scenario
Big City Pet Care
Joe has recently completed his Home and Career Skills career research assignment. He chose the topic of veterinary care because of his interest in and ability to work with animals.
Joe lives in New York City where manyof his neighbors need help feeding, walking, brushing, and providing company for their small pets. He is thinking about starting a pet care service to gain work experience and earn money for college. His mother thinks the idea of a pet care business would be a positive learning experience for Joe. However, she fears he will be taking on more than he can handle.
Up until now, all of Joe's free time has been taken up with volunteer work at a local animal shelter, basketball intramurals, and band practice. To reassure his mother that he can handle the responsibility, he asked his Home and Career Skills teacher to help him develop a business plan.
After thoroughly reviewing the plan with his mother, Joe is happy that she agrees to support his idea. Joe’s mother is convinced he will be able to manage time and resources without neglecting his other responsibilities. Joe has decided to name the business "Big City Pet Care" which will provide feeding, walking, brushing, and companionship for small pets. He is well liked by his neighbors who could refer him to others.
