Request to Advertise Position

This form is to be used to initiate the advertisement of a vacancy (replacement) or new position on campus. It is to be completed by the Budget Unit Head and forwarded to the Approving Agent (Dean) for approval. A detailed cover memo from the Approving Agent (Dean) requesting permission to advertise the position is then routed to the Employment Section of the Human Resources Office where the process will be completed. This memo should include a list of publications in which the position will be advertised. If applicable, an Unclassified Position Description Form for the vacant position must be completed and reviewed in order to request advertisement.

Before advertising begins, an Unclassified Position Description, Justification & Certification Form is completed by the Human Resources Office, approved by the appropriate Vice President, the Vice President for Administration and Finance, and the President, and forwarded to the University of Louisiana System for approval. NO advertising will begin until approval is received from the System Office. The Human Resources Office notifies the Budget Unit Head of the approval by telephone and a follow-up email or memo.

Vacancy notices are posted on the Human Resources Office web site (http://www.selu.edu/Administration/Depts/HumanResources/jobvac.html), the Southeastern Job Information Line (549-5065), and on bulletin boards in the Human Resources Office, Building NCHR, North Campus. The Human Resources Office is responsible for paying for two advertisements (two journals/newspapers, etc. of the department’s choice) if the position is funded in the operating budget. Departments will be responsible for paying for ads for positions funded by auxiliary or restricted fund positions. An advertising schedule for The Chronicle and travel regulations for faculty/staff recruitment have been provided for budget unit heads.
