The Risks and Benefits of Ankle Arthroscopy with Immediate Weight Bearing and Physical Therapy

The traditional postop regimen for ankle arthroscopy continues to be immobilization to prevent fistula and/or infection. We have moved to postop day #1 therapy with aggressive mobilization. Our results indicate this is beneficial without any increased risk of infection or fistulas compared to the literature.

Insertional Achilles Tendinosis: Treatment with Complete Debridement, Hagalunds Resection, and Volpius Lengthening

Insertional Achilles tendinosis can be quite disabling and common. We will review our treatment regimen as outlined above. We have had great success with limited complications in a large number of patients.

DMC Sports Medicine Visiting Lecturer:

Michael A. Parentis, M.D.

Dr. Parentis was born in Buffalo, NY and attended YaleUniversity. He was an All-American Lacrosse player for the #2 ranked Elis in 1990 and played in the national final 4 at RutgersUniversity. He attended the University of Rochester School of Medicine and then completed his orthopaedic residency at PennState. After residency he completed 2 fellowships. The first was a sports medicine fellowship at the Kerlan-Jobe clinic in Los Angeles and the second was a foot and ankle fellowship in Baltimore under the supervision of Drs. Myerson and Schon. In 2001, at the conclusion of his training he joined the Knee Center of Western New York. His practice is evenly split between sports medicine and foot and ankle pathology. The knee center acts as consultants for one division I college and 3 division II colleges. He currently lives in Clarence Center, NY with his wife and 3 children.

We work with and educate athletes of every age and level, and their communities, in leading healthy, active injury-free lives.
