CKI’s Guide to:
“K-Family Service Projects”
There are many ways to get involved during K-Family Month (November) with other branches of Kiwanis. All of the K-Family branches are enthusiastic and ready to bring together the community by encompassing all ages. I challenge you to work with each branch at least once this month! I have provided a list of some appropriate projects to help you accomplish this goal.
What are the other branches of the K-Family that you can work with?
· K-Kids
· Elementary School Members (3-5th Grade)
· K-Kids have huge hearts and like to get involved with everything. They are very creative and of course love to spend time with older kids such as CKI’ers who are their role models. Don’t be afraid to reach out to their clubs to plan joint service projects
· Builders Club
· Middle School Members (6-8th Grade)
· Builders Club members are now in middle school and have more free ground to volunteer. Board members will now enter the normal stature that includes (President,Vice President,Secretary,Treasurer,Editor).
· Key Club
· High School Members (9-12th Grade)
· Most key clubs operate at a larger pace. CKI and Key club joint projects work very well together.
· Key club now has DCONs where all member come together to elect higher office.
· Aktion Club
· Adults with Disabilities
· Aktion Clubbers are giving and outgoing.
· These members do a lot of fundraising and make good partners in this area.
Kiwanis
· Adults
· Our Parent Organization
· Kiwanians are a mix of today's young professionals and some of the older generations. Most hold monthly meetings and love to see CKI members at these meetings.
Projects to do with the K-Family:
· Playground Cleanup
· A playground clean-up is a great idea to do with all members of the K-Family. There are jobs for everyone from the K-Kids to the Kiwanians. Talk to the presidents of your surrounding K-Family clubs and decide on a date that all of you could do the project. Usually, contacting the city is usually the best way to find out where a cleanup might be needed and how you are allowed to do so.
· Senior Play
· Creating a play with your K-Kids club and Aktion Club to perform at a nearby nursing home is a great way for the K-Kids and Aktion Clubbers to be creative as well as to get to know their CKI’ers. Senior citizens love seeing new faces at nursing homes. Bring a group of CKI’ers to the K-Kids meeting to prepare the play and then contact a local nursing home asking if they would allow you to host an event at their facility.
· Story-telling
· Storytelling is a great project to do with Builders Club. Both groups know how to read and love the attention of reading to a younger group. Contact a local elementary school, library, or nursery school to see if you would be allowed to bring in a group of people to read to some children.
· Clowning Around
· Have your local Key Club and your CKI club dress up as clowns and take a trip to a Children’s Hospital nearby. Contact your local hospital and ask if they have special volunteers come in to entertain their young patients. Cheering up children with clowns, jokes, and maybe even balloons is a great way to bond and have a personal connection with the service you are participating in.
· Homeless Help
· Serving the homeless in your area is a great way to see the impact you are having on the community. Kiwanians love to see the impact they are making as well as organize their own projects. Contact a local charity or organization that works to help the homeless and ask what they will allow Kiwanis and CKI to partake in. This usually includes donating items as well as bringing them to the site and passing them out to the homeless.
