ICECProgram Officer-Francophone
Status: Exempt
The International Consortium for Emergency Contraception (ICEC) brings together individuals and organizationsaround a common goal of expanding access to emergency contraception, with a focus on developing countries. ICEC shares knowledge, compiles research, and advocates for greater access to EC, through its global and country-level advocacy activities, publications, website, annual meeting, and engagement with a wide number of partners.
ICEC is hosted by Family Care International (FCI), a non-profit organization dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safer around the world. FCI advocates for sexual and reproductive health and rights at the global, regional, and country levels; builds the capacity of local partners in Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean; and develops information and training materials. FCI is headquartered in New York, with field offices in sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America.
Under the direct supervision of theICEC Director,the ICECProgram Officer will work as part of a small teamon a range of advocacy and information-sharing activities.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Lead and oversee ICEC’s in-country engagement in Francophone African countries (initially Senegal and Democratic Republic of the Congo) by developing and maintaining relationships with local partners, identifying promising evidence-based advocacy and programmatic strategies to increase access to EC, and providing ongoing technical assistance to local implementing partners on the design, implementation, and monitoring of activities.
- Lead efforts to expand materials and communications efforts in French; this may include some translation and possibly developing a French-language listserv.
- Represent FCI and ICEC at relevant meetings and conferences, and in relevant coalitions.
- Develop relationships with new global and national partners in the public, private, and non-profit sectors.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute ICEC’s online presence, including drafting and editing content for ICEC’s online communications platforms (e.g. website, listserv, social media).
- Co-manage and grow ICEC’s knowledge-sharing community, which currently has over 3,000 participants.
- Develop advocacy, programmatic, and technical materials such as policy briefs, fact sheets, journal articles, PowerPoint presentations, and other policy, informational, and advocacy documents.
- Other program activities as requested.
Required Qualifications
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Excellent knowledge of French a must (verbal & written)
- Experience working in Francophone Africa a plus
- Experience in advocacy and communications, including online communications and social media.
- MPA, MPH, or MA, or similar degree, with a concentration in public health, international health or development, or a related field.
- At least three to five years relevant experienceworking in sexual and/or reproductive health
- Passion for reproductive rights.
- Strong knowledge of global sexual and reproductive health and rights issues, and familiarity with the global SRHR community.
- Attention to detail.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work in a fluid, fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
- Team player with resourcefulness and the ability to work independently.
- Eligibility to work in USA
Conditions of Service: 5 days per week, based in New York City
Period of service: Full-time position
Travel: Up to 25%
