Dear Sir:

As a concerned citizen, I am opposed to the construction of the two telecommunication towers that Bell Mobility plans to build in East Bolton. The East Bolton Town Council voted unanimously against Bell’s proposal since it contravenes municipal bylaws regulating visual corridors and tower heights.

These towers are not necessary. Mobile phone coverage already exists in East-Bolton and high-speed Internet is available through other technologies. What is the purpose of these towers? Exactly who will benefit?

Over 2,000 studies by reputable scientists show that microwave radiation emanating from these towers can damage the cells,especially in children, alter our DNA, and prevent our bodies from producing melatonin (the hormone related to sleep). How are you addressing these concerns?

The two sites Bell proposes are close to homes. Is this responsible?

Have you considered the impact on the natural landscape and on tourism in the area?

These towers will ruin the night skies; kill off bees, butterflies, and birds; and reduce property values by 20-30%.

Residents of the EasternTownship have worked for centuries to preserve the natural environment, and I do not want to see our heritage destroyed now.

  • What is the footprint?
  • Will there be guywires? How many cables will be needed?
  • How many lights will the tower have? Will they be lit all the time?
  • Can equipment be installed to activate the lights only when necessary?
  • Will the equipment produce noise? What intensity? How often?
  • How tall will the tower be?
  • At what distance from houses will it be located?
  • How many antennas will it have?
  • What are these antennas for?
  • What will be the strength and frequency of transmission?
  • How far will the radiation carry?
  • Do the towers communicate among themselves? How?
  • We already have cellphone reception and high-speed internet, why is this tower being added?
  • Will we have to change the equipment we use to use the assignments of these antennas?
  • Have you considered the risks for human, animal and plant health?
  • Have you considered damages to the landscape? If yes, what means have you adopted to mitigate them?
  • Have you learned about the standards proposed by our regional landscape visualisation and characterization organizations such as Paysages estriens?
  • Have you considered the impact on tourism in our region?
  • Are there alternatives to microwave technology, such as cable, fibre optics, satellites?
  • Why not use these alternatives?
  • I have noticed that there are opposition movements to telecommunications towers in all the municipalities of my area and even elsewhere in Canada. How do you respond to the concerns of these citizens?
